Job Description:

We are seeking a T&E NAM Firmware Manager to be based in Andover, MA. The Firmware Manager will increase the engineering capacity of the organization by building more and better engineering competence through training, mentorship, knowledge transfer, standardization, separation of work, and application of effective problem-solving techniques. The Firmware Manager must provide firmware leadership, vision and guidance to an engineering team having the mission to create profitable, differentiated solutions for a key offer portfolio of Schneider Electric . The work is exciting and fun, pushing the technology envelope in an open, collaborative, and supportive environment. In this role, you will be working with a multi-disciplined teams to design, implement, and test firmware running on embedded platforms that control switching power converters. You will be responsible for delivering high quality embedded code, power electronic controllers, and peripherals running on the Microcontroller/DSP at the heart of SE Power Systems. This is a unique and highly visible role that will be at the center of design, development, and productization of software, implementing control systems, battery management, and other related efforts, working closely with multiple teams such as power subsystems, battery management, platform architecture, hardware systems and many other software teams.

What will you do?

Work multi-functionally with system architects, electrical engineers, battery engineers, system software engineers, and other functional software engineering teams. Develop system management algorithms under tight delivery constraints. Design, implement and optimize system software and embedded firmware. Demonstrate and explain cross functionally system power/performance trade-offs. Influence hardware design specifications of future platforms to deliver a roadmap of innovative software solutions to very challenging battery mechanism system problems. Protect end-to-end confidentiality.


  • Develop the technical skill level of the teammates within the engineering function.

  • Provide goals and feedback to assist in teammate development.

  • Utilize all appropriate management techniques to drive team effectiveness and engagement.

  • Coach and implement effective problem-solving framework to increase NPD capability and promote continuous improvement.

  • Effective application of appropriate Engineering, Scientific, and Design Technologies

  • Promoting Subject Matter Experts (SME) in the technology platforms within the function

  • Participate and lead where appropriate the technology roadmap of the function to align the organization for increased NPD throughput and quality.

  • Partners with Product Engineering Managers and other organizational functions to meet departmental and organizational goals.

  • Through appropriate engagement and education maintain up-to-date knowledge in all areas of responsibility.

  • Develop standards and processes to improve functional performance and effectiveness of team.

  • Engage in sustaining and continuing engineering work where applicable to ensure high quality and limit line down situations in production.

  • Responsible for the delivery of engineering capability to satisfy product design and service demands of the organization.

  • Responsible and accountable for the budget within the function group in coordination with organizational goal.

  • Responsible for cybersecurity and functional safety initiatives within product development

  • Maintain and adopt ultimate responsibility for firmware development requirements.

  • Identify firmware development tools and plans to maintain a development edge.

  • Define a plan to retain and build firmware technical capabilities.

  • Influence hardware design specifications of future platforms to deliver a roadmap of innovative software solutions to very challenging power/battery mechanism system problems.

  • Develop SME's or design partnerships to implement power system solutions.

  • Increase the engineering capacity of the organization by building more and better engineering competence through training, mentorship, knowledge transfer, standardization, separation of work, and application of effective problem-solving principles.

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?


  • BS/MS degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, evidence of exceptional ability, or equivalent

  • 10-15 years of technical development experience.

  • 5-10 years of technical management experience

  • Proficiency in C/C++ Python; Knowledge of equivalent systems software programming languages and popular scripting languages.

  • Strong system firmware development skills.

  • Strong understanding of operating systems, hardware, and embedded systems.

  • Strong software fundamentals including firmware architecture, algorithm development, data structures, code modularity, and maintainability.

  • Familiarity with control loops and PID controllers

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts.

  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to the firmware team.

  • Build relationship with outside vendors and consultants and ensure ecosystem alignment with SE product roadmap.

  • Programming experience in RTOS environments like VxWorks, Embedded Linux, UCOS-II, ThreadX, etc.

  • Proficient with version control systems - Git

  • Familiarity with Deep Learning Embedded System AI.

  • Working experience using software static analysis tools (e.g., Klocwork, Coverity, Parasoft/RTRT/LDRA).

  • Demonstrated innovative, critical & independent thinking, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Highly professional, with the ability to deliver high quality, well-tested work on tight schedules.

  • Excellent collaborative skills, with outstanding written and verbal communication.

  • Experience with implementing system management features and other solutions in power-constrained systems is a plus. Experience working on field data analytics to analyze and improve algorithms is a plus.
