Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems is hiring an entry level Structural Designer for State College, PA. The ideal candidate will have intern experience in vertical structures design, and an interest in learning and working on diverse project assignments which may include steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design of building structures and miscellaneous structural assignments. A person whom is willing to travel for work assignments is required. The proposed candidate will be expected to learn various design standards such as IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, TMS, and NDS as well as model structures using engineering software such as TEDDS, RAM Structural System, and RAM Elements. In addition, the individual should be familiar with and willing to learn the use of REVIT for the production of construction documents.  The individual will be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects.  The designer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.

Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):


  • Analyzes information and data to perform routine design tasks.

  • Prepares structural design and plan preparation of structural drawings.

  • Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.

  • Research design options and document findings.

  • Responsible as a member of the design them for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.

  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower, resolving engineering design problems.

  • Keeps Structural Engineer informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as CADD production and field data collection.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

  • College level coursework focusing on structural design

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • Previous internship experience in building structure design

  • TEDDS, RAM Structural System, RAM Elements, and REVIT working knowledge

  • No relocation or stipend assistance

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, working at exposed high elevations, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc.).

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hand and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keyboard.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
