Job Description:

H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firm seeks a Construction Inspector for our Melville, NY office. This position is for electric transmission and distribution, as well as inside pant (substation), project support on Long Island and New York City.

Note: Project durations will vary with assignment, but H2M will make every effort to facilitate a long term career position. Typical work schedule varies from 40-60 hours per week, and is subject to change based upon the contractor schedules and project needs/business needs.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Provide observation during the construction of new, replacement and upgraded electric outside plant facilities OH/UG and/or inside plant (substation) construction.
  • Oversee the activities of all construction contractors to ensure safe and efficient construction of facilities.
  • Prepare reports for area manager on work schedules, planned work, change orders, unusual work or operating conditions, etc.
  • Confirm compliance with technical documents and industry specific standards and codes.
  • Review and download field data into laptop computer and transfer to company server.
  • Discuss projects with project team on a daily basis; communicate with both H2M and client employees.
  • Make accurate judgments calls on a variety of construction field activities.
  • Perform other like duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical overhead & underground outside plant facilities or inside plant construction.
  • Prior experience with a utility company highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of construction, techniques and procedures.
  • Must be organized; ability to juggle tasks and shift focus when needed.
  • Promote safety principles and counsel associates as required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean history. Must have a car.
  • Ability to stand, climb and walk continuously during an 8+-hour period.
  • Ability to ride in man lifts to perform inspections.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in all climates (Ex. heat and cold, etc.).
  • Must have working knowledge of general computer applications (MS Suite), and be able to learn new software as necessary for projects requirements.
  • Must have Smart phone knowledge for use in daily field activities.

The hourly rate for this role is $24 - $50.
