Hyster-Yale Group, Inc. (HYG), a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Intern Commodity Manager I based at our Headquarters office in Greenville NC.


The HYG Intern is part of a formal internship program. An HYG Intern will support a business function and assist in projects. The Intern will build skills and knowledge in their assigned functional area and in the overall company. Assignments will vary within each department and are determined based on need. Work assignments commonly incorporate some entry level work with guidance given for first-time experiences. Future work assignments (for returning Interns) increase in responsibility, complexity, and challenge. The rate at which a student can assume additional responsibilities is determined by his or her level of maturity, interest, initiative, and academic background.


What you will do:


  • Establish and maintain assigned global supply base that operates in partnership fashion with HYG to jointly deliver the best technology and quality products for the lowest possible acquisition cost.

  • Develop, maintain and support global &/or regional sourcing strategies (participating as leader &/or team member) that support HYG's Component Application Strategies.

  • Utilize ASE's, ACR, APR, VIP's, and LCC sourcing, and consolidation plans to meet annual financial, engineering & production objectives.

  • Administrate, facilitate, and finalize the Procurement inflation / deflation financial scorecard process, including cost reduction tracking and planning.

  • Manage monthly component price variances with the plant Controllers and recover premium freight expenditures owed by suppliers.

  • The completion and publication of various Procurement and Supplier performance metrics.

  • Provide Americas Sharepoint, supplier portal, and vendor master administration.

  • ISO document administration.

  • Other misc. projects, initiatives, and ad hoc reports and requests.

What you will need:


  • The incumbent must be a strong communicator, with diverse groups of people throughout HYG's global operations, under stressful conditions, and must have good organizational skills with regard to work priorities and project-management requirements.

  • Microsoft office skills

  • Strong Project management skills

  • Must be able to influence critical elements and activities within the project and be capable of reporting "unpopular" and / or controversial positions to project and procurement management.

  • Diplomacy and negotiation skills must always be exercised, even in difficult situations. This individual must be capable of effectively handling multiple projects and being able to provide detailed cost-benefit analysis to back sourcing decisions made in support of the projects being managed.

Skills, Experience & Abilities:

  • Rising or Graduating High School Senior or

  • Currently enrolled student in a Community College or University or

  • Currently enrolled in a Technical School

  • Previous internship or Co-op experience is a plus

  • Sets high standards of performance for self and others; assuming responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks; self-imposing standards of excellence rather than having standards imposed.
