Job Summary

The Senior Director, Network and Faculty Projects collaborate closely with the Managing Director, Faculty Director, and other key stakeholders to lead stewardship of the Berkman Klein Center’s newly established network programs unit. This includes the Network of Centers, student programming, executive education programming, support for our faculty projects and our incubator function – bringing new faculty project ideas from idea to reality.


Position Description

As Senior Director, Network and Faculty Projects you will:

  • Be responsible for effective management for a team of staff, including managers and their direct reports. This includes hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment.
  • Be responsible for the development, strategic execution, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Berkman Klein Center (BKC) Network cultivation and programming including:
    • In partnership with executive team, define strategy for stewardship of our BKC community, fellowship program and Network of Centers
    • Establish self-sustaining executive education and related programs with responsibility for effective implementation, with the goal of advancing public understanding and discourse around nuanced topics relevant to BKC’s mission
    • Direct student programming to foster student engagement and amplify the work of Berkman Klein Center and its Institutes and projects
  • Develop and implement strategy for a new idea to impact incubator, guiding projects from idea to successful implementation. Determine which opportunities, including new collaborations and projects across and outside Harvard, to pursue. Make strategic decisions based on Center priorities, and communicate that vision with precision and clarity to internal and external communities to facilitate engagement, foster growth, and develop successful partnerships.
  • Work with BKC faculty, executive team, and management team to support BKC’s faculty research projects.
  • Build, promote, and strengthen internal and external collaboration across staff and senior-level stakeholders.
  • Participate in and contribute to decision-making across Center leadership.
  • Leverage BKC’s academic reputation and research capabilities to help complicated faculty-led projects be not only successful but pathbreaking in their development and execution. Partner with Fundraising, Community, and Communications to build on success stories and continue advancement in areas that are critical to the global public, such as AI and machine learning, disinformation, privacy, security, and more.
  • With the Managing Director, cultivate and effectively manage the team so that the organization can deliver pioneering programming, educational initiatives, faculty support, and community development consistent with BKC’s mission.
  • Determine the allocation and alignment of Center resources across existing and upcoming projects in the Network, with a growth mindset for both the initiative and the professional development of the team.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and at least eight years of administrative management experience, including at least two years of direct professional staff supervision.

Additional Information

This is a term appointment currently expected to extend through June 30, 2025, with potential for renewal subject to funding and departmental need.
