Lab Coordinator



This is a full-time lab coordinator position within the Department of Psychology's Identity & Intergroup Relations Laboratory (www.joelleforestier.com), directed by Dr. Joel Le Forestier. This position will coordinate multiple in-lab and field-based studies on topics related to self-presentation, stigma-management, prejudice, and prejudice-reduction, supervise volunteer research assistants, and coordinate general administrative duties to main the workings of the lab. The successful candidate will be the lab's inaugural lab manager, and will thus have the opportunity to work uniquely closely with the Primary Investigator and to make a particularly large impact on the lab and the work in it. This role is well-suited to someone who wants to pursue graduate school in psychology or a related field.

A qualified candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field and a minimum of 1 year of previous research experience (e.g., part-time research assistant positions, etc.). Strong organizational and communication skills are required, and the candidate must be willing to work flexible hours that may occasionally include some evenings and weekends. Familiarity with programming in R and javascript, IRB policies/procedures, and Qualtrics are desirable, but not required.


Job Summary

Conducts research assessments on study participants. Assists with and adheres to Institutional Review Board (IRB) renewal, modification, and approved protocols. Assists with training staff. Ensures adherence to protocols and corrects issues with data collection.


Essential Functions

-Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments, including determining experimental protocols
-Analyzes experimental data and interprets results; compiles results; writes reports and summaries of findings
-Maintains lab inventory
-Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books
-Prepares data, graphs, tables, and charts to document experimental results for publication
-Consults with other researchers and staff regarding laboratory procedures and experiments
-Develops recommendations and problem resolutions to improve research efforts
-Works with research participants and volunteer research assistants


Physical Effort

The position is largely sedentary, although the employee would need to transition from room to room that are separated by several hundred feet. No heavy lifting, although employee may be required to occasionally lift up to 5 pounds.
