Primary Function of Position

The Manager of Vision Product Engineering will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to develop improvements to shipping vision product families consisting of endoscopes, illumination and image processing modules, and manufacturing processes. This leader will build an infrastructure to extract information from system logs, RMA data, and internal and external customer feedback. This role is a key part of making data driven decisions to improve new product designs prior to launch in addition to improving existing production released hardware.

Essential Job Duties

The role requires analyzing the Data/Trends from current Endoscope field use and return data to refine existing and new product architecture for optimal reliability, quality, and cost. This key technical management role will guide and mentor a talented product engineering organization responsible for revising existing product designs, using data to drive manufacturing process improvements, and creating all associated control documentation. Additionally, this Product Engineering team works collaboratively with the Design teams and Manufacturing teams to transfer product improvements to volume manufacturing sites around the globe.


  • Coach, develop, and lead the engineering team through influential leadership, balancing the development objectives of the team with the needs of the organization

  • Collaborate with partner teams across Intuitive to develop effective processes for prioritizing and efficiently completing projects related to product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer feedback

  • Analyze the data from current products in the field to find trends and opportunities for improvement

  • Work with Quality Engineering group to ensure that the team follows appropriate GMP, design history file (DHF), and device history record (DHR) guidelines per FDA requirements, and support design reviews in accordance with product development procedures

Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience

  • Track record of leading and developing sustainable teams

  • Ability to effectively lead a team that is split among geographic regions, organize effective collaboration in time zones with limited work-day overlap, and balance cultural differences among contributors

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently collect and analyze data, turn it into a compelling story to explain what the data is telling us, and write an ending to that story which provides a path to improving patient outcomes, surgeon experience, and business performance

  • Demonstrated ability to distill the data-driven story into clear goals and actions for the team that deliver improved products for our customers in a timely manner


Required Education and Training

  • Minimum B.S. degree in Engineering discipline, M.S. preferred.

  • A minimum 1-3 years' experience managing an engineering team.

  • A minimum 8-10 years' experience in design, manufacturing, or service environment for complex electro-mechanical products.


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience in medical device manufacturing/field data analytics

  • Strong quantitative process development skills including (p)FMEA, tolerance analysis, DoE, SPC, GR&R, and CpK

  • Excellent organizational skills; Able to manage multiple fast-paced projects

  • Prior experience with Agile Change Control and SAP

  • Experience in an ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.

Base Salary Range Region 1: $184,000 USD - $276,000 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $156,400 USD - $234,600 USD
Shift: Day
Travel: 10% of the time
