Position Purpose

Habitat Charlotte Region operates 6 Restore locations in the Greater Charlotte area. Each Restore is a fundraising arm of the affiliate with proceeds used to help build and repair homes for hard-working families right here in our community. The Restore and Volunteer Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in development and fostering the volunteer experience as it pertains to Habitat Charlotte Region's retail programs. This position works closely with the Senior Manager of Volunteer Services, the Volunteer Recruitment Specialist, Development staff, Retail staff, and others to create a consistent and positive volunteer experience based on the needs of the affiliate.

The Volunteer Services team recruits, supports, and retains over 4,000 individuals in the Charlotte Region who volunteer their time in Habitat's mission each year. Volunteers contribute millions of dollars in direct service each year, making them a key part of Habitat's success. The Restore and Volunteer Engagement Specialist directly oversees hundreds of Restore volunteers and is an exciting opportunity to practice people management early in a career.

Essential Functions


  1. Work with the store managers to determine the volunteer needs and opportunities with each of our 6 Restore locations

  2. Hold biweekly office hours at Restore locations in Mecklenburg and Iredell counties

  3. In conjunction with the Senior Manager of Volunteer Services and leadership of appropriate departments, determine and shape meaningful volunteer opportunities for the Restore program

  4. Collaborate with Development staff to schedule corporate, faith, and school groups at the Restore

  5. Recruit, recognize, and retain volunteer groups who serve at the Restore

  6. In conjunction with the Senior Manager of Volunteers and/or Volunteer Recruitment Specialist, assist with volunteer recruitment efforts as needed.

  7. Collaborate with Retail staff to foster a consistent, professional volunteer experience

  8. Help maintain volunteer database and work with other staff to keep accurate records of the affiliate's constituents

  9. Report on volunteer metrics on a monthly basis

  10. Monitor and report on volunteer satisfaction

  11. Lead the Volunteer Recognition Program, including the future Volunteer Rewards Store

  12. Lead the planning and execution meaningful volunteer appreciation opportunities and events for volunteers across the affiliate with the Volunteer Services team

Qualifications


  1. Bachelor Degree Preferred

  2. Self-motivated with ability to work as part of group or individually

  3. Strong Communication Skills

  4. Organizational Skills

  5. Managing Multiple Priorities

  6. Commitment to and knowledge of Habitat

  7. Public Speaking Experience

  8. Past volunteer/community service experience preferred

  9. Computer skills, including database management & basic website management

  10. (Preferred: Microsoft Office; Salesforce)

This position requires working primarily indoors in an office setting and traveling within the service area.

Physical Demands


  • Ability to sit at desk and use computer for extended periods of time

  • Ability to stand and walk construction job sites for several hours at a time

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. unassisted

Estimated Time Commitment: 40 hours/week, Tuesday-Saturday work week.
