Job Description:

Nemours is seeking a Continuous Improvement Specialist - Clinical to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, Delaware.

This position provides continuous improvement support, through a clinical lens, to Nemours by functioning as an analyst, facilitator, consultant and/or project manager as required. They will leverage their clinical expertise to support improvements in areas that require clinical subject matter expertise. This individual will work throughout the system with a broad range of stakeholder groups, focusing on clinical, operational and enterprise systems areas. This work includes leading larger scale continuous improvement work such as value stream mapping (VSM), clinical standard work development and strategy/goal deployment.


  • Facilitates, guides, and supports continuous improvement work as directed by executive leadership. This encompasses leading large scale work efforts that may span the enterprise or be geographical in nature. This work includes preparation and planning for the projects, conducting the necessary workshops, implementation, daily management, and coaching clinical & administrative leaders throughout the project.
  • Assists enterprise and senior leadership with strategy development and deployment through the facilitation and use of appropriate continuous improvement tools (e.g. strategy A3) with a special emphasis on clinical areas.
  • Develops, tests, and implements new Continuous Improvement training programs and materials across the enterprise. Revises existing training materials through feedback and update cycles with adjustments that resonate with clinical areas across the enterprise.
  • Serves as a uniquely qualified resource for clinicians making improvements in their areas, as well as a resource within the team.
  • Coaches at all levels of the organization on the habits and disciplines of a successful continuous improvement culture. Teaches and trains teams and individuals on the application of problem specific tools to support improvement activity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to challenge the status-quo and encourage breakthrough thinking to ensure Continuous Improvement principles are implemented.
  • Researches and identifies relative benchmarks to be used in the establishment of daily management measures to ensure compliance with standard work.
  • Develops reliable methods and standard work used by the Continuous Improvement team.
  • Participates in tactical and strategic planning for the continuous improvement work to be done in concert with Nemours leadership. Develops, maintains, and revises work plans as appropriate. Monitors outcomes. Integrates work with other departmental initiatives and revises as needed.
  • Assures adherence to Continuous Improvement standards and methodologies across the enterprise.
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Clinical Master's Degree or higher required (Pharm D, OD, MSN, etc.).
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in clinical work with experience in lean mindset, management system & methods.
  • Experience with coaching and mentoring others.
  • Experience with lean management systems, tools and methodologies.
