About the Role

The Investment Research Technology team is responsible for providing solutions that further investment dialog. As a global firm, investment professionals from all geographies collaborate on investment ideas and decisions, and this research and dialog must be readily discovered and delivered to interested investors. We are seeking candidates for a Lead Software Engineer who can work closely with members of Wellington's business users as well as other members of technology teams such as Business Analysts and QA engineers to implement solutions that meet business requirements. This role is part of the technology team that supports research and collaboration for Wellington investment professionals. This role will be primarily focused on building out our research platforms and models, ESG & sustainability initiatives, and research data management capabilities. In addition, the role supports highly customized homegrown solutions and vendor products.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Lead the delivery of high-quality business solutions, including participating in architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support


  • Work with business teams, project managers and systems analysts to review and qualify business requirements, functional specifications, use cases, and test plans


  • Participate in creation of new prototypes and develop new software components based on functional specifications across the full stack - services, web and mobile clients, infrastructure, and back-end


  • Coordinate with analyst teams and vendors to execute test plans and provide support during user acceptance testing


  • Modify and enhance existing systems to incorporate new functionality and to optimize them for performance


  • Author technical design and support documentation


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing web applications and services using JavaScript or other relevant enterprise technologies (e.g., Java, .Net)


  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing complex web services using REST, TypeScript, JavaScript/NodeJS, Jest, Java, or related technologies


  • Familiarity with developing web applications using HTML5, CSS or modern UI frameworks such as React or Angular


  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a non-technical audience


  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills


  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities effectively


  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex concepts and to learn quickly


  • Ability and willingness to work effectively in a business-critical production environment


  • Ability to work independently


  • Ability and willingness to work in an energetic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment


  • Experience developing applications with cloud technologies, preferably AWS


  • Experience developing with Python


  • Demonstrated understanding of modern source control, artifact, and deployment management tools, such as Git, Artifactory or Jenkins CI


  • Intermediate-level experience with SQL


  • Experience with various software development methodologies, such as Agile

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:

USD 80,000 - 180,000

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.

Base salary is only one component of Wellington's total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
