Who we want… (Requirements)

The new team member is required to have a minimum of 8 years of experience in Electrical Engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with design of food and beverage, Mission Critical or Semi-conductor manufacturing facilities, and/or processing facilities and with a Professional Engineering License.

Must possess basic computer skills including the ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail applications. Also, utilize programs for calculating loads and performing cost analysis. Proficiency with AutoCAD is needed as well as working knowledge of Revit.

The candidate must be physically located near a Gray, Inc facility or willing to travel to offices with electrical team members.

Qualifications

What we expect… (Essential Functions)

The Electrical Engineering Manager coordinates the interrelating activities of subcontractors, suppliers, vendors and customers, design and engineering efforts.

Electrical Engineering Manager position includes review of work done by entry level designers and junior engineers. Includes goal setting, development, and training. Will include managing multiple engineers (some that may be remote) and designs for various projects. Includes quality assurance reviews, load calculation checking, code interpretations, etc. This includes in-house engineering teams and 3rd party engineering efforts.

Independently applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis within the discipline. Develops designs that require innovation and ingenuity. Work performed with minimal supervision; has considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Participates in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects:

Directs activities to ensure that design, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and customer requirements: Maintains effective communication with project team members and with the customer.

Reviews construction documents and construction installed from subcontractors to confirm compliance with scope and contract documents.

Reviews and updates electrical engineering design standards.

Other duties may be assigned.

Specifically, the Electrical Engineering Manager is responsible for developing engineering design and managing a team of designers and engineers including:

  • Provide electrical engineering design strategy and technical support on electrical engineering reviews, strategic plans, and projects, including but not limited to medium and low voltage electrical switch gear; emergency power systems (including generator and UPS); application of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC); power monitoring system and SCADA, power system automation, protection and relaying; motor control centers (MCC); power distribution; lighting; fire alarm system; security systems and computer networks.
  • Reviews project designs prepared by others to ensure that they are properly designed in accordance with acceptable engineering standards, code compliant, constructible, meet project goals.
  • Reviews MEPR systems designed by others and works with code officials, contractors and local utility providers.
  • Serves as the lead technical advisor for defining and solving electrical engineering issues.
  • Review construction shop drawings; respond to RFI’s, perform site visits.
  • Establishes technical standards in reviews, documentations, and designs.
  • Manages engineering teams and other electrical engineering staff members.
  • Participate and lead Customer meetings.
  • Ensures drawings and specifications meet overall project requirements as well as project scope, budget and schedule.
  • Monitor the financial performance of the project and identify areas of ‘scope creep’ for Add Service opportunities; coordinate with the customer or client manager to successfully address the issue.
  • Assist in the professional development of junior engineers and designers through individual mentoring and participation in the firm’s various internal training programs.
  • Prepare performance reviews and provide input on salary actions.
  • Develop customer relationships to support the needs for electrical projects.
  • Interface with client, contractors, and vendors on technical issues.
  • Prepare proposals in response to Requests for Quotations (RFQs) including development of competitive pricing.
  • Coordinate with Business Development team to identify additional proposal and service opportunities.
  • Actively participates in industry organizations (IEEE or similar).

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities of designers and engineers for work generated by this individual.
