Position Title: Plastic Surgery Director (PSD) - North Central Region - preferably Ohio based

Position Overview

The Plastic Surgery Director – PSD is the regional plastic surgery sales specialist, driving penetration of TELA Bio’s product portfolio into plastic and reconstructive surgery, and complex abdominal wall applications. The primary responsibility of the PSD is to deliver the regional sales number through a specific focus on plastic surgeons. The PSD will carry a sales quota associated with a region that is weighted towards TELA BIO product usage in plastic surgery. The PSD is also a clinical expert who will collaborate across functions including Sales, Medical Education, Clinical, R&D and other departments. The PSD will develop key relationships with plastic surgery thought leaders and support new product introductions across TELA Bio’s current and future product portfolio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Regional Sales Manager in assigned geographic region(s) and area(s) to strategically target and achieve regional sales goals.
  • Spend 3-4 days per week in the field working closely with Territory Managers and surgeons to facilitate best practices for the safe and effective adoption of the Company’s product portfolio.
  • Work regularly with Territory Managers to enhance their clinical understanding of soft tissue reconstruction and plastic surgery.
  • Provide clinical support and expertise to Territory Managers in current and new accounts to further develop effective utilization of TELA Bio products, including case coverage during adoption phase.
  • Present and introduce TELA product technology to surgeons, as may be applicable, including individual and group presentations.
  • Attend and participate in field based meetings, industry meetings, and tradeshows.
  • Initiate new hospital accounts by championing access through Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
  • Develop surgeon advocates that can be developed into educators.
  • Identify surgeons whose experience is worthy of case reports and publications.
  • Work with the TELA ecosystem, including SCR team to engage hospital Supply Chain, Materials Management, Administrators, and New Products committees and departments.
  • Provide input on the development of new products for applications in General and Plastic Surgery.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Strategic Marketing teams

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) or higher

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 10 years clinical experience in soft tissue reconstruction.
  • Participation in multiple new product launches.
  • Successful experience with start-up companies in introducing new technologies to potential users and future advocates.
  • Support sales in initiating and growing sales through clinical expertise.
  • Proven success and experience in clinical and market development.
  • Experience in developing new clinical applications and working with surgeons at prestigious academic centers.
  • Ability to work with Key accounts / National accounts.
  • Expectation to be in the field working approximately 3-4 days per week.

  • Ability to carry and lift product inventory of up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for a minimum of 4 hours.
  • Ability to attend surgical procedures of up to a minimum of 4 hours
  • Must have demonstrated ability to multi-task in high pressure, changing conditions.

Working Conditions

This position works in a home office, hospital, HCP office or clinical environment. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

Primary Location and Travel

We anticipate that on an ongoing basis this role will be a field office-based position although significant travel within assigned region(s) and area(s) is required. Participation in face-to-face society, medical and/or other Commercial meetings, as needed, will require additional travel to meet the needs of the business.
