The Senior Chemist will be primarily responsible for performing gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) data analysis and testing support in an analytical chemistry lab. The position has responsibility for project-based GC/MS data processing, sample preparation, operation of GC/MS instrumentation, accurate compound identification, and quantification of unknowns and target compounds. The role functions as part of an analytical chemistry team that works under ISO 13485 and ISO 17025 Quality Management Systems.

A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • • Partner with clients to understand and define testing needs

    • Partner with the project teams to perform GC/MS data processing and chemical characterization


    • Interpretation of GC-MS spectra to support chemical characterization


    • Perform sample preparation, testing, data analysis, and reporting


    • Create reports that clearly organize the results and demonstrate that test plan requirements were satisfied


    • Document testing and data analysis results in a lab notebook


    • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot GC/MS instrumentation


    • Support investigations into aberrant test results


    • Other responsibilities may include supporting other chemical characterization testing including non-volatile residue, HPLC/UV, GC, and/or LC/MS sample prep, analysis and quantification/identification


Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required in Chemistry, Biology, Material Science, or related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience performing MS analytical testing

Nice to Have

• Extensive knowledge and experience performing GC/MS separations and identification of unknowns and target compounds in the areas of extractables/leachables, materials, and polymer characterization

• Experience performing chemical identification of unknowns

• Experience documenting testing in laboratory notebooks to cGMP standards

• Experience and understanding of cGMP, ISO17025, ISO10993, FDA and ICH requirements

• Familiarity with MassHunter acquisition software

• Strong verbal and written communications skills

• Ability to prioritize and execute on daily tasks

• Ability to work and be effective with minimal supervision

• Use of Microsoft Word & Excel

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
