Under the general direction of the Water Superintendent the Chief Water System Operator performs supervisory work in planning, coordinating and directing the construction, repair and maintenance of the water distribution system. Incumbent is also responsible for the installation, maintenance and reading of water meters, operation and maintenance of pumps, wells, water tanks, water treatment plant and oversees the cross connection and backflow prevention program. The incumbent is guided by policies and assignments received from the Water Superintendent, but is carried out with a high degree of independent judgment in accomplishing the work and developing new programs. This is a fully seasoned skilled level capable of independently carrying out most assignments typical of the discipline. This position is required to perform technical work within an office environment as well as manual labor in the field.
