Role description:

We are looking for candidates to join our Wakefield, MA team who want to apply technical know-how, combined with business principles, to the water, wastewater, and stormwater industry. We want dedicated, creative, and energetic candidates interested in tackling challenges and developing sustainable solutions to address water issues like renewal and replacement of aging infrastructure, funding of capital improvements, and water supply. Collaborating with our experienced consulting professionals, you will support and contribute to project outcomes; interact, and work with clients, and develop your technical capabilities.

Role accountabilities:

As a Water Engineer/Consultant you will play a vital role in supporting a variety of asset management projects. Your responsibilities will include performing data analytics, operational and organizational assessments, asset inventories, asset condition assessments, and overall performance evaluations of water/wastewater/stormwater facilities. You will work closely with project teams providing support in tasks ranging from technical office-based analysis to general fieldwork.

Fieldwork activities will involve site visits, construction inspection, sampling, water quality analyses, asset inventory, flow monitoring set-up and monitoring, and technology evaluations. Your strong analytical skills and ability to apply logic to solve problems will be essential in ensuring accurate and reliable data collection and analysis.

In the office, your responsibilities will consist of preparation of reports, presentations, and other audio-visual materials, business development support, and participation in client meetings.

In addition to the accountabilities mentioned above, you will also be responsible for the following:


  • Use of digital tools to enhance customer experience, team and client collaboration, and project delivery including configuration and deployment of SharePoint, Power BI, as well as designing and managing databases and cloud-based computing services.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to accommodate collaboration with team members across the U.S. and internationally.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with multiple deadlines, ensuring completion per project budgets and timelines.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Reliable, client-focused, and capable of working independently under the supervision of project managers.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, organization skills, and work ethic.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented, with the ability to work successfully both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to balance and address new challenges as they arise and an eagerness to take ownership of tasks.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, and practices related to water/wastewater/stormwater.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Drive to succeed and grow a career in the utility industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work/internship experience at a consulting engineering firm or municipal work environment
  • For those with engineering degrees, ability to obtain the EIT shortly after starting at Arcadis
  • Excellent technical aptitude and experience with GIS and/or Microsoft Power BI

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $59,800 - $89,700.
