Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Engineering Intern at Amsted Seals.  Amsted Seals, part of the larger Amsted Rail Division, has been expanding our capabilities through direct sales and partnership programs.  This global business continues to expand its service offerings into new industry applications, currently manufacturing and marketing seals in the Rail, Automotive, Commercial Vehicle, and Industrial Markets.  Combined with the expertise and design foundation of Amsted’s long-standing seal business. 

This position is located at our Colonial Heights, Virginia satellite office and is just down the road from our manufacturing facility in Petersburg, VA on the Amsted Rail’s Brenco Bearings Campus.  Brenco is not only a sister company, but also provides our business with some shared services support while also being a significant customer for Amsted Seals.  In addition to our Virginia locations we have Seals locations in Ningbo, China, Sahagun, Mexico, Hebron and Chicago, IL, as well as joint ventures in Phillipsburg, NJ, Jaipur, India, and our continued expansions in and out of country.

Position Summary:

The Product Engineering Intern will assist with product engineering activities including but not limited to implantation of new products, approval of current products at joint venture facilities, engineering changes to prints and models, and component testing and validation.  As a Product Engineering Intern, you will be assisting in strategic expansion of the product portfolio and production footprint of the overall Amsted Seals business.  The Product Engineering Intern will work closely with Quality, Operations, and other Engineering departments to facilitate business growth through exciting projects throughout the internship.

 

What you will do:


  • Assist in planning and implementing of new products into production within the Petersburg facility

  • Assist in validating and approving current products at other facilities within other Amsted Seals facilities and partners

  • Learn and follow Program Management and product design principles needed to ensure proper documentation and validation completion

  • Work with our test lab to develop test plans, reports, and follow up action to approve and validate product designs and products for production

  • Work with the Quality, Product/Process Engineering, and Operations teams to resolve downtime issues within the facility

 What we are looking for:

  • In process of earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • Some experience with CAD, preferably SolidWorks

  • Must have an innovative mindset: be willing to contribute new ideas, be willing to take acceptable risks, and follow through to completion

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or as a member of a team

  • Must be very approachable and able to develop strong professional relationships and foster communication inside and outside of the engineering organization

  • Must possess high energy and be highly adaptable to work in a nimble, innovative, and fast paced environment that supports a culture of continuous learning and development
