DEPARTMENT: Technical Innovation

JOB SUMMARY

Lead, manage, influence, and support a group of highly trained contributors to strategic process and product development programs.  Drive Cost Reduction initiatives for the global manufacturing sites. Will participate in the transfer of new products and processes from the multi-national corporate R&D organization and lead the full implementation into the manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Leads the engineering team in continuous improvement initiatives resulting in cost-reductions

  • Makes decisions within known work processes and make recommendations for improvements using a data-based approach (Sig Sigma, Lean, etc.)

  • Make recommendations for improvements to equipment and operating procedures to improve productivity.

  • Actively participate, assist, and/or be accountable in the planning and execution of high-complexity development and troubleshooting activities for new and existing products and processes.

  • Identify, analyze, propose, and lead new product and raw material improvement opportunities.

  • Accountable for developing a culture that thrives on innovation and maximizing product knowledge and process performance.

  • To have Positive and Productive interactions with internal and external customer and suppliers.

  • Provide the appropriate product and raw material technical support to new product development and improvement projects, ensuring that appropriate technology is used to bring commercially successful products to market.

  • Provide appropriate direction and decision-making guidance to all levels of the organization.

  • Supervise a group of highly skilled scientists performing development activities to support the activities above.

  • Responsible for managing group performance and developing expertise in key areas of importance to the business.

  • Lead, coach, and participate in multi-disciplinary teams engaged on above activities.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Strong and demonstrated project management skills. Project Management Professional (PMP©) certification strongly preferred.

  • Proven team and group leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach less experienced staff and technicians.

  • Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills in Spanish and English

  • Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization and outside partners.  Must be able to give clear direction, communicate expectations, and provide feedback.

  • Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects within the varying demands of a 24/7 manufacturing facility.

  • Knowledge of QSR regulation / Good Laboratory Practices (GLP, part 58) and GMP / Safety regulation (OSHA)

  • Adaptable and flexible, with openness to change. Determination to see tasks through to their successful conclusion.

  • Self-reliant, dependable, steady under pressure, team-oriented, enthusiastic, approachable, well-organized, and innovative. 

  • Computer literate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Generally works in a closed environment, in office conditions, with a moderate level of noise and controllable changes of temperature or works in a machine shop environment, with a variable level of noise, sometimes requiring ear protection and controllable changes of temperature

  • Needs to stand, walk and may be seated for a long period of time

  • Uses hands to feel, finger or handle and reach

  • Performs light physical effort with little exposure to adverse conditions 

  • Could be required to travel 

  • Works with a personal computer and programs to prepare documents or reports

  • Applies communication skills to perform work and coordinates with others

  • Applies communication skills (advanced reading, writing, and technical skills) and mathematical concepts knowledge to perform work and coordinate with others

  • Needs to have high analytical capacity and level of professionalism and judgment to resolve problems 

  • Will work near moving mechanical parts

EDUCATION 


  • BS Engineering

  • Manager experience 3 years (Preferred) or 10 years of strong engineering experience.  

  • Six-Sigma or Lean 6-Sigma certification strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE


  • Experience in analytical method validation

  • Experience in supervising technical personnel performing product, process, and/or materials development activities.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical or medical device industries.

  • Experience in contact lenses manufacturing and development is strongly preferred.
