Position Summary

Provides support to the Legal department on a broad range of matters, including the handling of employment matters, general litigation and claims, identifying potential liability, minimizing risk, and developing and managing defense strategy and outside counsel, while minimizing costs. Performs legal research, develops and provides in-house training, and assists in the development of programs and materials. Reviews and creates documents and other materials related to various other subject matter areas within the company.

Major Responsibilities


  • Conduct in-depth legal research on employment law matters and stays up to date on relevant legislation, regulations, and employment-related case law affecting our organization.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and editing legal documents specific to employment law, such as employment agreements, contingent labor agreements, severance packages, and non-compete agreements.
  • Assist in handling employment litigation matters, including organizing documents, e-discovery, and deposition preparation, working closely with managing attorney and/or outside counsel; serves as intermediary between outside counsel and clients, including maintaining regular communication with clients, providing case updates, and addressing inquiries.
  • Lead and/or provide support to managing attorney and/or Human Resources Business Partners in addressing compliance issues, conducting internal ethics investigations, and drafting comprehensive final investigation reports.
  • Lead and/or provide support in compliance audits and internal reviews of clients' employment policies and practices, including providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with HR to develop and update employment policies and procedures in line with current employment law regulations.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities, including filing legal documents with courts and administrative agencies (e.g., EEOC), scheduling appointments, and managing case calendars.
  • Conduct legal review of consumer-facing marketing materials, including commercial advertisements for television and online platforms, product brochures, email campaigns, and sweepstakes and contests. Counsels marketing team members on legal compliance and risk related to consumer-facing marketing materials, including FTC guidelines, product disclaimers, truth-in-lending disclosures, and intellectual property.
  • Assist with matters relating to corporate governance for the company, its holding company, and various company subsidiaries (e.g. preparing Executive Committee, Board of Director, Shareholder, and Member consents for special and regular meetings, amending bylaws, etc.); assists with the preparation of materials for the Board of Director's Annual Meeting; assists with coordinating and maintaining annual report and other corporate filings with the applicable Secretary of State (or equivalent governing body).

Additional Areas of Potential Oversight

  • Assist with various company contracts (e.g. assignment and assumption agreements, termination notices, etc.) for Subaru of America, Inc. and its subsidiaries; applies understanding of basic contract principles and ability to issue spot in an effort to loop in various subject matter experts and revise contracts based on internal guidelines and attorney contract team input.
  • Assist with various protest and litigation matters relating to the company's network of franchised retailers, such as preparing and circulating litigation hold memorandums and assisting with discovery requests.
  • Coordinates the pre-trial defense of lemon law and warranty litigation, including case evaluation, discovery strategy, settlement strategy and valuation, and coordination of outside counsel and SOA personnel.

Required Skills and Personal Qualifications

  • Paralegal Certification required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), legal software (including Relativity/RelOne), and other software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, decision-making, negotiation, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and ability to prioritize matters.

Education/Experience Requirements: 4-year college degree (BA, BS) or equivalent experience in lieu of degree. 8 to 10 years of related experience required.

Certification/License Requirements: Paralegal Certification Required

Work Environment


  • Hybrid Role: Remote work 2 days per week (After 90 Days Onboarding)
  • Travel Required: 5%

Compensation: The recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $81300 - $95000 / year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
