We are seeking a full-time, Senior, Field Chemist for our Denver, CO operations.

The selected candidate will support environmental projects related to federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients. You will be responsible for: data validation and data quality assessment support, environmental emergency response, field investigations (including soil, sediment, water, and air sampling; drilling and subcontractor supervision; and coordination with analytical laboratories), construction and/or remedial action oversight, and preparation of technical reports. You will also prepare various technical deliverables including reports, letters, proposals, cost estimates, tables, and figures. The candidate will work collaboratively with and under the supervision of a project or program manager.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have at least six (6) years relevant field experience in the application of chemical principles at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites and/or spills of oil or hazardous substances. In addition, you will have / be:

• Prior experience with environmental and hazardous materials emergency response, contaminated site investigation and cleanup projects is preferred.
• Experience with analytical laboratory operations, including: performance of preparation and analytical methods associated with gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) methods such as EPA SW-846 methods 8015, 8260, 8270, or equivalent methods; use of portable x-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers; use of portable Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analyzers; routine maintenance for the equipment noted above; basic laboratory operations with laboratory balances, standards preparation, labeling, and instrument calibration.
• Familiarity with and understanding of the various compendiums of laboratory analytical methods, including SW-846, EPA toxic organic methods in ambient air, and the Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) Statements of Work.
• Project experience to include environmental and hazardous materials emergency response, CERCLA RI/FS projects, data validation and data quality assessment, site characterization, UST compliance monitoring, UST closures, and vapor intrusion assessments. Previous field experience required, including supervision of sampling activities, ability to work independently on field projects.
• Relevant field experience in assessment of abandoned, neglected, and/or improperly stored laboratory chemicals (e.g., school laboratories, abandoned labs at manufacturing facilities, chemical storage facilities, etc.); knowledge of appropriate health and safety practices during chemical container handling procedures to prevent uncontrolled reactions, explosions, spills etc.
• Experience with hazardous categorization techniques, waste classification and profiling.
• Knowledge of chemical compatibilities/incompatibilities.
• Proficiency in interpreting field data and preparation of technical reports.
• Proficiency in interpreting field data for the purposes of characterization of wastes and determination of appropriate disposal options, developing bulking schemes and lab packing.
• Experience preparing technical reports, memos, response to comments tables, and diagrams is required.
• Experience conducting multiple levels of data validation, up to and including detailed reviews of full laboratory data packages (equivalent to Stage 4 reviews of Level 4 data packages). Experienced in the application of the EPA CLP National Functional Guidelines for organic, inorganic, and high-resolution data review. Broad experience validating analytical data for both inorganic parameters (metals and wet chemical methods) and organic parameters (volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, pesticides, herbicides, polychlorinated biphenyl compounds, and dioxins/furans).
• Experience conducting data quality assessments and writing data quality assessment reports, summarizing the reconciliation of a project's data quality with the stated data quality objectives (DQO).
• Experience reviewing and managing environmental data and databases using software such as Microsoft Access or R is preferred.
• Ability to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers required.
• Previous experience working on proposals is desirable.
• Previous experience working with GC and/or GC/MS methods in a mobile laboratory is preferred.
• Project management training and experience is preferred.
• Ability to assist with cost estimating and obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors is preferred.
• Able to communicate effectively and make evaluated decisions for the betterment of the client and the company.

In addition:
• Passing a background check is required for this position.

Degree / Certifications
• BS/BA degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline is required.
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training preferred.
• In addition to English, fluency in other languages will be considered a plus.

Work Environment
The work environment will consist of a mix of office and field work, with some field work requiring overnight stays. In addition, you must be able to:

• Drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
• Work in the field 25% -30% of the time.
• Walk around project sites for a full day if required, including on uneven terrain, in remote locations.
• Work outside in a variety of weather conditions, both hot and cold, and sometimes harsh considers.
• Carry up to 35 pounds of equipment (such as sampling tools, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras) during field work.
• Remain stationary at a computer in an office environment for office-based tasks.
• Travel to project locations within the United States. Travel is estimated to be 50% of time worked.
• Work beyond traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, in order to meet client deadlines.

The Salary Range for this position is $72,000 - $110,000 depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
