Job Description:

As a Automation Technician Supervisor, this position is responsible for the supervision of the team to ensure all preventative maintenance is complete on time, production trouble calls are answered timely with Safety and Quality being the top priority. You will use Preventative maintenance, troubleshooting Electrical/Mechanical aspects of processing and packaging equipment, Fabrication, and electrical repair.

Work will be done in compliance with current regulatory guidelines, national, state, and local laws, company policies and safety requirements. These activities can include but not be limited to: adjusting production lines for optimal operation, machine rebuilding, troubleshooting and repair; preventative/predictive maintenance; moving equipment; welding and machining of parts, replacing electrical components.

Essential Duties:


  • Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of the Processing, Manufacturing and Packaging equipment from an electrical and mechanical standpoint.
  • Performs machine rebuilding, repair and troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and may move equipment.
  • Completes general work orders and interfaces with other departments across all shifts in a team environment.
  • Continuously looks for and helps to implement improvements to the process, productivity, quality and reduce costs. Performs special projects and other related duties specific to the department as assigned.
  • Answer Production calls for assistance on production lines.
  • Perform assigned preventive maintenance and ensure techs complete all assigned preventative maintenance.
  • Adjust laser printers.
  • Assist Set-up techs with written instruction for checklists/set-up manuals.
  • Understand sensors: fiber optic/laser/inductive/product level.
  • Support new machine installs.
  • Troubleshoot software changes on PLC's.
  • Troubleshoot electronic components (PLC/Servos/Servo drives/vfd's).
  • Program VFD's/Servo drive systems.
  • Basic fabrication (mill/lathe/saw/welding/press)

Knowledge, Experience and Education:


  • Requires completion of a high school diploma, General Education Development (GED)
  • Prefer related technical degree and/or 2-4 years of experience with proven ability in a team lead role.
  • Must possess a solid background in equipment repair with the ability to perform installation, alteration and repair of machinery and components.
  • Must display knowledge of Electrical systems and apply to machine repair and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to interpret and work from Blueprints and schematics.
  • Must possess good math and reading comprehension skills and be able to read, speak and comprehend instructions in English or language of country as applicable, including procedure documents, as well as proofread alpha and numeric data.
  • May require own transportation to drive between facilities as applicable.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical, Federal Drug Administration (FDA), other controlled regulatory agency or Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) packaging or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Basic fabrication knowledge: tig weld, mill, lathe, hand tools and threading. Advanced fabrication knowledge: repair product contact parts with Tig welding and polishing, lathe turning preferred.
  • AC/DC and 3 phase electrical understanding
  • Knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic systems
  • PLC and VFD knowledge
  • PLC experience (AB/Siemens)
