Job Description:

The company is seeking to hire a Quality & Lean Operations Leader. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Operations & Quality and will be accountable for Alpha Technologies manufacturing and warehouse operations in addition to its Quality Management System. This leader will be responsible for operational systems and process and its organizational structure to attain key performance metrics for the company. Alpha's production and shipping team leaders as well as a team of quality engineers, a quality technician and ISO coordinator report to this leader. The primary focus of this role is to ensure safe and timely production and shipment of Alpha's products while also maintaining compliance to and continuously improving Alpha's quality management system. Additionally, Alpha will look to this leader to effectively deploy lean principles and problem-solving techniques throughout the organization. This position will have a prominent level of interaction with the Director of Engineering, Controller, VP of Finance, Director of HR, Safety Manager and President.

Detailed Primary Responsibilities:


  • Maximize team efficiency and engagement through effective coaching, team building, and mentoring.
  • Work closely with the EHS Manager, HR and Sr. Director of Operations & Quality to ensure zero accidents. Health, security, and safety is a top priority.
  • Manage the operations team leaders and quality team, providing leadership and oversight for efficient operations, lean and quality systems.
  • Manage the organization's Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure conformity to customer, internal, ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and regulatory / legal requirements.
  • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, and developing employees.
  • Foster a Lean culture through deployment of Lean operational methodologies and tools and utilize Lean to investigate issues, identify solutions, and recommend corrective and preventative actions. Lead the Quality Escalation process and initiative root cause analysis and preventative & corrective actions.
  • Facilitate capacity planning analysis and Alpha's sales & operations planning process.
  • Oversight of the creation, auditing, and maintenance of standard work instructions to ensure repeatable success in manufacturing.
  • Develop and report on departmental and business key performance indicators (KPI's).
  • Oversee inspection (examination) of incoming materials, ensuring materials meet specifications.
  • Manage the monitoring, measurement, and review of internal processes, especially those that affect Alpha's products.
  • Work with engineering, sales, and customers to ensure product quality design requirements are achieved.
  • Report on the performance of the QMS (e.g., results of quality audits, corrective actions), including the need for improvement.
  • Conduct periodic management review meetings.
  • Oversee product recalls.
  • Oversee the management of the organization's gauge program, processes, documentation control, calibration of instruments, and inspection equipment.
  • Test, analyze, and set limits for Alpha Standard Reference Rubber.
  • Complete customer request forms, surveys, customer complaints and inquiries.
  • Audit and maintain calibration certificates to ensure compliance to customer and ISO 17025 requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures and organize work areas for efficiency and safety.
  • Provides status reports to management as required.
  • Respond to change productively.
  • Influence outcomes across other functional departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic direction, vision, and leadership to direct reports including coaching and mentoring.
  • Conducts semi-annual and yearly performance evaluation in cooperation with functional leaders.
  • Ensure with the Team Leaders that the workforce is regularly evaluated against the skills for pay matrix to ensure appropriate classification of workers based on evidentiary performance and to maintain equity Globally.
  • Confer with superiors, subordinates, and other personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required (Operations Management, Lean, Quality Assurance & Statistics or related field preferred).
  • +5 years of experience managing an ISO 9001 required.
  • +5 years of experience managing an ISO 17025 system (preferred).
  • +2 years supervisory/management experience required.
  • Lean & Six Sigma (6S) and continuous improvement experience (Black Belt preferred).
  • Excellent statistical skills and ability to set uncertainty budgets.
  • Experience in the rubber or capital equipment industries (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and manage global teams, strategic channels, and customer relationships.
  • Data driven decision capability.
  • Exceptional communications and presentation skills, written and verbal required.
  • Team-oriented player.
  • Must be an aggressive self-starter and possess the organizational skills to leverage resources across the organization as needed.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, be well organized, and exercise sound judgment concerning distribution and key accounts.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills and attention to detail.
