Overview

Summit Materials is looking for a Director, Human Resources with broad HR experience in fast-paced and dynamic environments. This individual will be an employee champion and change agent. With a people-first mentality, you seek to continually enhance your people skills as you roll out creative programs that not only help us achieve our company business objectives at scale, but also help individuals reach their full potential. The Director, Human Resources is responsible for aligning business objectives with the needs of employees and leadership within the business unit. The position also cultivates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to leaders and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Partners with senior leaders in the region to advise and execute strategic objectives. Acts as a consultant for all HR matters including workforce planning, talent management, succession planning, M&A, engagement and retention, total rewards, DEI initiatives, and employee relations, etc.
  • Works closely with the leadership team in the implementation and standardization of company policies related to human resources, development of solutions through organizational development, employee development, and cultural and process-oriented perspectives at the region and line of business level.
  • Provides insight to leadership on all strategic HR initiatives.
  • Advises employees and managers in driving performance differentiation, instilling our cultural values, communicating our employee value proposition, and creating a culture of inclusion.
  • Leads company-wide programs and initiatives (e.g., salary review, compensation planning, workforce planning, and organizational change) in partnership with the HR team.
  • Partners with the business, HR peers, and talent management on key HR and talent initiatives to enable business change (supporting the talent aspects of organization structure changes, workforce planning, hi-potential employee development, succession planning, and talent integration related to mergers & acquisitions, etc.).
  • Providing day-to-day performance management guidance to senior leaders and down to line level management (key skills and abilities include coaching, counseling, career development, influencing, facilitation, presentation, communication, process development, analysis, and problem-solving).
  • Leading and facilitating change management initiatives.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Travel is required: 25% to 35%

Skills & Experience:

  • At least 10 years of professional experience as a strategic senior HR partner.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred, but we are most interested in your experience and professional achievements.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation, organizational development, talent management, employee relations, engagement and retention, diversity, M&A, and federal and state employment laws.
  • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and administrative practices related to those factors.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Able to manage multiple complex issues and prioritize projects concurrently.
  • Solutions-oriented, influential, data driven hands-on leader, with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal & written, with an ability to flex styles depending on the audience, and a positive change agent.
  • Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with and through others and able to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access) or related software
