Maintenance Clerk at Federal Signal Corporation

Job Description:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Enter new/used equipment and create asset numbers for pieces of equipment

  • Creates spare parts lists for each asset #

  • Maintain weekly, monthly, yearly pm schedules for each asset #

  • Tracks hour logs, permits, and licenses due

  • Track assets in service and out of service (maintains new and old asset tags)

  • Create daily “as requested work orders” for each asset along with tracking parts used, time spent working on, mechanic and or outside services who worked on equipment.

  • Route requests and work orders to appropriate mechanic

  • Data entry of “daily work done” sheets for each mechanic to account for time spent

  • Follow up with department supervisors to ensure work is scheduled appropriately and completed.

  • Work with vendors getting quotes for best price on parts and services

  • Orders necessary parts for equipment and work orders for department and mechanics

  • Receives in parts, tracks backorders, returns along with signing invoices for accounting

  • Tracks all expenditures per Vendor via excel spreadsheet to maintain budget limit assigned

  • Schedules outside services as needed/requested

    • Fire extinguisher PM – schedules monthly check of all plant-wide extinguishers ensuring they are checked, signed off on and recorded in MP system along with a copy given to Safety Supervisor.

    • Forklift  PM – tracks all work needed to be done on lifts via pre-inspection safety sheets and create necessary work orders/services and tracks meter readings. Copy to be given to Safety Supervisor

    • Maintains files and records for each employees training he/she has completed

    • Keeps track of all upcoming training and or meetings for department

    • Tracks all “SAFETY” related work for department for quarterly projects, along with safety related work requested by other departments under specific categories for tracking.

    • Perform maintenance safety meeting.

    • Maintains open line of communication for maintenance department and facility.

    • Various clerical duties

    • Forklift training certified – trainer for the facilities.




Position Requirements



  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
