Job Description:

The focus of the Director, Strategy & Corporate Development is to play a leadership role in managing Medline's global mergers and acquisition activities and initiatives. Responsibilities for this role include the identification, analysis, and execution of inorganic growth opportunities and the deployment of corporate development skills and tools. This role will develop strong partnerships with our senior leadership team and our global product divisions to identify, cultivate, structure, and execute on mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions. Other key relationships for this role include Medline executive officers, corporate functional leadership, and Medline private equity ownership, as well as external private equity and investment banking partners and target company leadership and stakeholders.

Responsibilities


  • Lead discussions, presentations, and evaluations related to corporate development projects, including effective coordination with Regional and Divisional leadership and key Medline functions.

  • Act as a thought partner and advisor to commercial executives in their decision to support deals.

  • Drive strategic / landscaping assessments to develop, maintain, and execute pipeline of opportunities of various complexity and size.

  • Conduct in-depth market research and sophisticated product and channel assessments to identify potential areas for strategic growth and investment.

  • Coordinate due diligence activities with respect to identified strategic target assets.

  • Cultivate relationships with target pipeline company stakeholders to ascertain when a company is likely to transact and ensure Medline is the preferred partner.

  • Coordinate investment banking run processes starting with investment thesis development and moving through confidentiality agreements through target management presentations and bid development.

  • Actively lead discussions with investment banks, private equity sponsors, lawyers, and other sources of deal opportunities to increase and improve Medline's deal pipeline.

  • Represent Medline as a company seeking strategic M&A, including representing Medline at industry and professional events.

  • Drive ownership and accountability for operating and transaction models with business partners and finance teams, with focus on synergy identification and deal thesis assumptions.

  • Support business partners at Medline on developing and executing local assessment and cultivation strategies.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with blue chip banking, investment banking, private equity, or corporate development is required.
  • Experience owning and cultivating relationships with business owners and private equity and investment banking partners is required
  • Extensive experience leading and closing successful acquisitions, divestitures, and/or strategic partnerships. This experience includes target identification, deal strategy and analysis, financial modeling, diligence, negotiations and integration plans.
  • Strong background in strategic thinking and development is essential.
  • Extensive experience in transaction structuring and negotiation is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration or similar field strongly preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in investment banking, private equity or corporate development
  • Relationships with private equity and investment banking partners is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability for collaboration and influence, including adapting influencing approach to target audiences and anticipating impact of words and actions.

  • Proven negotiator and strategic thinker with strong foundation in transaction tactics.
  • Ability to preempt and rapidly resolve conflicts and incorporate perspectives of others to achieve alignment.
  • Focus on strategic action, supporting strategy development with market and data insights.
  • Ability to travel up to 30 - 40% for business purposes (both domestic and international).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Self-starter with a passion for cross functional collaboration and strong ability to manage complexity and thrive in ambiguity.
  • High degree of integrity and strict adherence to ethical standards.
