We are currently seeking an Associate Design Engineer to join our dedicated team in Lancaster, PA.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Associate Design Engineer is a pre-professional engineering position that is responsible to provide engineering, design and surveying support to the structural steel fabrication plant operations. This support includes fabrication fixture and product handling design, building and equipment structural design, shipping and axle load analyses for large oversize loads, engineering surveys and measurements, as well as the drafting and detailing associated with these tasks. Able to perform safe, efficient and economical design and analysis of bridge and other structural steel components in accordance with AASHTO/AREMA/AISC Specifications, AWS and applicable contract requirements. Responsible for development of the details and shop drawings associated with assigned projects, with may include support to the development of erection procedures for High Structural Erectors. Responsible to assist in the development of solutions to issues that may arise in fabrication. As-assigned engineering field work associated with the above.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering


  • Two years of progressive engineering and/or directly-related project management experience in the steel fabrication, bridge design/construction and/or manufacturing fields preferred.

  • NCEES admission to Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination within one year; pass FE within eighteen months; Professional Engineering Registration within three years

  • Knowledge and ability to accurately analyze structural engineering statics, mechanics/strengths of materials, physics, bridge geometry and bridge field measurements. Surveying knowledge or experience is advantageous.

  • Experience with 2D drafting or 3D modeling software (Microstation, AutoCAD, Tekla, Revit, etc.)

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for working effectively and collaboratively within a team

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite, MathCAD, STAADPro/SAP2000, RISA 3D or equivalent is preferred


  • Proficiency in working with and applying governing specifications such as AASHTO, AWS, AISC, AREMA, ASTM, and various Owner Standard Specifications

  • Some welding/related experience a plus: pass at least one welder certification test within one year of initial welding school on-the-job training.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATES, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:


  • Fundamentals of Engineering (Civil) Certificate

  • Professional Engineering License (Civil/Structural) upon eligibility to register for the exam

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:


  • The Associate Design Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer.
