Service Development Intern collects, compiles, analyzes, and reports on data and information for a variety
of service planning projects. The position may include using analytical skills applied to software applications,
databases, spreadsheets, routes, schedules, and other technical tools. Since this is an internship position
working-time may include learning the tools needed to perform the job requirements and field work – riding transit services and collecting relevant observational data.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL:

Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of RTD, working effectively in a diverse work environment. Collects field data, including transit/pedestrian access, bus stops, ridership, transfers, traffic, and schedules. Studies current transportation systems, analyzing effectiveness, use, and needs. Recommends modifications to current plans to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, reduce cost, and implement other improvements. Compiles primary and secondary data and descriptive information into software applications, spreadsheets, databases, GIS, and/or reports. Conducts problem identification, analysis and recommendations, reporting, and staff follow-up. Assists with ridership reporting, planning, scheduling, runcutting and mapping (ArcMap GIS).

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Pursuing a degree in transportation, geography, urban or architectural planning, engineering, GIS, business administration, or another related field.

  • An interest in transit planning, scheduling and/or work shift planning (runcutting).

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Currently enrolled in a college degree granting academic program in good standing

  • Colorado residency

  • Valid CO driver’s license

  • Ability to meet RTD hiring standards (criminal history, drug use, driving record)

  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and a high degree of ethics

  • Professional certifications and bilingual/multilingual skills are a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


  • Basic understanding of transit operations and planning policies.

  • Ability to analyze transit trips, blocks, and runs. 

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to use sound judgment.

  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment is a typical office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Maintain a valid Colorado driver's license  Position may work up to 20 hours per week; not RTD benefit eligible Position will align with fall, spring or summer academic semesters Employment is temporary and will be evaluated at the completion of each academic semester for continuation based on business need and work performance.
