Position Description:

The Research Scientist, Antibody Discovery will be responsible for discovering therapeutic molecules to treat a variety of indications in our target species. As a member of Research and Breakthrough Innovation, the scientist will work collaboratively within a matrix environment to design and execute antibody discovery studies to elicit highly potent antibodies. The research scientist will collaborate with our clinical team to design vaccination strategies to elicit an optimal humoral immune response against our antigens of interest. This individual will contribute to Elanco’s single B cell sequencing workflows to identify antibody sequences from our target species and other model species. The incumbent scientist should have strong practical immunology skills, with a demonstrated history in the design and execution of single B cell experiments. This position is a primarily laboratory-based role in Greenfield (soon to be Indianapolis) that will require routine interactions with multiple functions within R&D. The incumbent scientist will be expected to support multiple projects at any given time.

Functions, Duties, Tasks:


  • Design immunization strategies against antigens of interest with contemporary and novel delivery technologies in a variety of species

  • Develop and execute single-cell B cell discovery workflows

  • Create and execute protocols identifying and enriching antigen-positive B cells

  • Design and execute screening strategy on novel phage display libraries to contribute to antibody discovery pipeline

  • Experience using contemporary molecular biology techniques (Gibson, In-fusion, etc) to assemble new expression constructs

  • Design and conduct protein and cell-based assays for antibody characterization Collaborate with internal and external parties to progress projects Independently design, execute, analyze, and troubleshoot experiments as needed

  • Train and mentor scientists within team and organization

  • Creative and innovative thinker with the ability to work independently and collaboratively

Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):


  • Minimum Ph.D. degree in relevant scientific discipline with 0-3 years experience in academia or industry; or a Master's degree with 5 years of related experience

  • Experience in single B cell cloning and multicolor cell sorting is expected

  • Experience and knowledge of NGS is preferred but not required

  • Effective oral and written communication skills to communicate results and ideas
