JOB SUMMARY:

The Mining Technology Application Engineer provides technical expertise within the team and assists with all support related to technology including installation, configuration, validation, troubleshooting, data engineering, etc. This individual is responsible for the maintenance of support agreements with assigned client, deriving value for the client, and overall client satisfaction of technology systems. This individual will provide leadership to other team members and develop an open line of communications with key operational and management personnel that ensures a successful relationship with our clients and fellow employees. This position will assist account managers and product support reps with the sale and promotion of both Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar technology products. Promote all manufacturer partners to include Caterpillar and Sitech products to increase the overall efficiency of the mine or earth moving operation. Promote Empire and Sitech as a leader in the field of technology and technology products to ensure maximum market share by promoting the team concept through professionalism and technical expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :


  • Provides expert guidance and support on the utilization of technology systems including the MineStar Suite, high speed wireless networks, Product Link, Vision link, and other technologies in scope.
  • Provides clients with data driven recommendations on process improvement utilizing technology enabled solutions and services.
  • Conduct site audits and user assessments to ensure clients are utilizing technology tools to maximize value extraction from technology.
  • Understand and measure industry specific metrics and define client specific metrics to track value realization.
  • Build, support and deploy custom and standard reporting and dashboarding solutions for clients.
  • Provide training to internal and external stakeholders in the functionality and value of the systems.
  • Create, respond, and escalate client requests and issues through ticketing system leveraging both Caterpillar and Empire resources.
  • Responsible for the success of new deployments, major upgrades, and integration at client sites.
  • Responsible for integration management of technology enabled systems to client wireless and back-office infrastructure and with other applications.
  • Viewed as the technical expertise within the team that assists in installation, configuration, validation, troubleshooting and support of all technology systems.
  • Assist in scheduling repairs, support, and assigning priorities to ensure smooth workflow in the office and at client locations.
  • Identifies technology sales opportunities and collaborate with the Account Manager in implementation.
  • Manages all warranty claims, parts repair, contract billing, machine installs, and specialized client projects.
  • Accurately track all billable client hours in designated system by projected deadline.
  • Holds regular meetings with clients to ensure client is extracting value from the tools, product problems are resolved timely, contract hours are billed appropriately, and discuss continuous improvement projects.
  • Works safely at all times and makes safety the highest priority.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with technology manager to write support contracts that address the level of support required by the client.
  • Develops a relationship that leads our clients to ask us for assistance in solving their technology needs.
  • Provides timely and accurate expertise and knowledge to account management team to develop quotes to the clients that reflect what is necessary to complete the project.
  • Maintains open communications with mining team.
  • Looks for opportunities outside of Technology Products department and communicate those opportunities to the appropriate account management team.
  • Coaches and mentors' technology team members to advance their expertise.
  • Maintain valid driver's license and suitable driving record. May travel up to 50% of the time. (Overnight stays may be required).
  • Complies with all company and client policies, procedures, and standards.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Must have strong computer skills to include e-mail, Microsoft Office, Networking, PC formatting and rebuild, software installation, Registry editing, Hardware specification analysis, Internet, and other industry standard systems.
  • Must understand analog and digital sensors and their application and utilization to augment GPS data.
  • Must understand electrical circuit theory and be able to read complex electrical schematics.
  • Must be able to use a multi-meter and test for voltage, current, continuity, and industry tools.
  • Must have planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills sufficient for management level presentations.
  • Must have problem solving capabilities.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Advanced mechanical knowledge including CAT Machines.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Must have an Associate's degree or equivalent. Degree in Engineering, Survey Technology, Computer Science, or IT with a focus on networking and database technology or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Minimum 4 years information technology and machine control and guidance systems experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience in the use of GPS Machine Control systems.
  • Able to achieve MSHA certification.
  • Must complete site specific training and pit driving, as it pertains to contracted site.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
