The Maintenance Technician I plays a critical role in assisting to maintain the efficient operation and upkeep of assigned property and grounds for several multi-family dwellings. This person will ensure the properties are maintained and safe while providing excellent customer service to our residents. Success in this role requires attendance at property sites during normal business hours and a flexible schedule when needed for support.

What you will do


  • Prioritize and complete daily repairs and upkeep of the property to include appliances, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, showers, and exterior drains; minor drywall repairs; and painting touch ups.

  • Complete routine and preventative maintenance to include general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, drywall, floor covering, gutter and roof cleaning, pressure washing, winterizing properties, flushing out water heaters and water supply lines, and painting parking lot lines and handicap zones

  • Provide 24-hour emergency repair response service

  • Detect and report the need for major maintenance repairs

  • Prepare vacant units for occupancy to include painting rooms and trim, appliance installation, and kitchen/cabinet/countertop/floor replacements

  • Remove snow and ice as necessary

  • Report health and safety violations to the Maintenance Supervisor


How you know you're right for the role

  • You have at least 1 year of experience with maintenance and repairs of multi-family housing or similar properties

  • You know and always operate within OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act) standards and safety policies

  • You're good at creating a positive, active and collaborative relationship with residents and Relay team members

  • You like to show up to work looking professional and you're always prepared with tools

  • You enjoy doing your job alone, but you know how to ask for help for unusual or emergency situations

  • You're comfortable with responsibility. You know that errors you make can result in damage to property, injury to residents or even breaches in building security.

  • You like and are able to travel between housing properties daily, and you don't mind a flexible schedule if an emergency comes up.

  • You really like working in different environments. You don't mind working outside, being exposed to heat and cold, or working around paint & chemicals

  • You love a very active job where you might need to lift 50-100 lbs. and you spend the day moving around, using stairs, etc.

How you know you're qualified

  • You have at least 1 year of experience with maintenance including indoor and outdoor repairs

  • You know how to repair appliances; complete minor plumbing, electrical, and basic carpentry, and you're good at interior/exterior painting

  • You have reliable transportation, a current license and a safe driving history

  • You know how to be safe and maintain hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment

  • You can determine what kind of repairs need to be done and can complete them

  • Ability to read and speak English for safety purposes and communication

  • You know how to be organized, prioritize and keep supplies in order

  • You are good with email, excel and Word

  • You love working around a diverse population and you know how to stay calm if someone is upset or angry

  • You have experience with Yardi, Voyager, and Rent Café systems (a plus)
