Job Description:

TransCore (TCI), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a Technician II to join our team in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Job Summary: The Technician II position performs on-site or in-house routine inspections, troubleshooting, servicing, repair, integration, and/or installation of radio frequency identification (RFID), fiber optic, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, Variable Message Signs, Ramp Meters, Vehicle Detection Equipment, Tolling equipment, and data telecommunications equipment. This position may include any aspect of field support, and is not limited to system hardware and software, Ethernet networking, microwave/RF communications, and fiber optic communications. This position provides field technical support to both customers and in-house staff on operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment and serves as a customer contact on technical and service system-related issues and problems. As fieldwork is performed, this position will be responsible for preparing reports per established procedures and use such reports in analysis of equipment failure trends and service ability issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Install/Configure/Test equipment including but not limited to cameras, RFID readers, communication equipment, ramp meters, variable message signs, tolling equipment.
  • Install low voltage conductor, data conductor, and fiber optic cable.
  • Test devices to ensure they work correctly.
  • Prepare logs to keep track of field conditions, installation, and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with clients and perform tasks according to their specifications and requirements.

Education:


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 2 years of related experience.

Required Skills & Experience:


  • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN networks, fiber optics, serial and video communications.
  • Ability to make connectors and troubleshoot communication circuits.
  • Able to use a meter and ability to read and understand plan drawings and schematics.
  • Wireless network knowledge.

Other Requirements:


  • Technical degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and moving traffic.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
  • Ability to operate a bucket truck.
  • Comfortable with confined space work.
  • Willing to occasionally travel to western states for work assignments.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
