Job Description:

The MGH division of Gastrointestinal and Oncologic Surgery is looking to hire an APP to join our growing APP team. Our division currently over 35 surgeons and 10 APPs working on the main campus and our satellite campuses. We value hard work and are looking for a self-motivated and energetic candidate who will help us to expand our clinical capacity in melanoma, sarcoma, and GI cancers. We are hoping to hire someone willing to take a deep dive into one area but also cross train across the surgical oncology specialties.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with our oncology surgeons to manage patients in the perioperative period as well as long term surveillance. They will carry their own panel of patients working in close conjunction with our surgeons to care for these patients and be a bridge for those who need surgery and beyond. We are also looking for someone who is motivated to learn how to perform office based procedures including excisional biopsies, complex wound management and possibly some benign office excisions. This is an office based position.

    • Certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant

    • Current Licensed/Registered NP or PA in Massachusetts Qualified in all basic and advanced cardiac life support standards as established by the American Heart Association.

    • Ideal candidate would have 2-4 years experience in the Advanced Practice role, particularly in the full-service gastroenterology or surgical arena but willing to train the appropriate candidate.

    • Must be a highly motivated individual who will work in a collaborative manner with physicians and other clinicians.


    • Diagnose and treat health problems; obtain patient histories, perform comprehensive physical examinations, perform simple diagnostic tests /procedures and prescribe medications

    • Maturity, self-confidence, and able to manage a panel of complex oncological surgical patients

    • Time Management: Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively and complete tasks; Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadline pressures.

    • Leadership: Highly motivated, independent and capable of performing in a complex environment; Strong sense of initiative and perseverance to carry through to completion of tasks; Demonstrates forthrightness and integrity. Ability to identify issues/projects and initiate plans to address asking for direction when appropriate; Ability to communicate effectively, sell ideas, and take ownership and responsibility for activities.

    • Interpersonal/communication: Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, and public speaking skills; Good command of English language, including medical and scientific terminology.

    • Information Systems/Technology Skills: Exceptional computer skills (including operating systems, word processing, database, electronic mail, Internet, spreadsheets, and other office management systems); Ability to maintain database and run associated analysis and reporting as needed to track growth of referrals.

    • Quality Assurance: Skills to work efficiently and effectively and strive to do so in all aspects of position; Effective project management skills and attention to detail.

    • Critical Thinking/Decision Making: Ability to appropriately evaluate all aspects of a situation and to independently make appropriate and timely decisions.

    • Discretion and Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters discreetly.

    • Safety/Compliance: Knowledge in aspects of safety applicable to position; Knowledge of and compliance with institutional, JCAHO, HIPAA, and other regulatory bodies' standards

    • Knowledge and compliance with all hospital, State and Federal regulatory requirements, including hospital
