Job Description:

We are seeking a talented, highly motivated researcher to join the Applied Molecular Biology Division at New England Biolabs (NEB) as a postdoctoral fellow.  The successful candidate will primarily focus on biochemical and structural characterizations of DNA deaminases as well as enzyme engineering to improve the enzyme characteristics and applications.

Primary responsibilities:


  • Express and purify DNA deaminases and determine their substrate specificity.


  • Collaborate with external labs to investigate the structures of DNA deaminases with bound substrates and elucidate the substrate specificity mechanisms of DNA deaminases.


  • Engineer DNA deaminases to improve their substrate selectivity or change their substrate specificity through rational design or high throughput engineering.


  • Apply DNA deaminases in next-generation sequencing (NGS) to detect epigenetic modifications.


  • Explore DNA deaminases in base-editing applications.


  • Effectively communicate the discoveries to the scientific community through presentations and peer-reviewed publications.


Required Qualifications and Experience:


  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, or related field.


  • Advanced skill level in molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques.


  • Strong multitasking ability.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


  • Proven ability to work independently and in collaborative team environments.


Preferred Qualifications and Experience:


  • Hands-on experience with protein expression, purification (IMAC, IEX, SEC), and biochemical or biophysical characterizations.


  • Experience with structural biology (x-ray crystallography or structural modeling).


  • Experience with protein engineering.


  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) and epigenetic modification detection is a plus.
