Your Team & Role

As a Vice President, Tech Lead in Group Insurance Technology you will partner with product owners, designers, engineers and delivery professionals to improve Group Insurance’s product development capabilities.  You will provide leadership on technical strategy, own the technical and architectural decisions and lead, mentor and coach the technical team as you implement capabilities to solve sophisticated business problems, deploy innovative products, services and experiences to delight our customers! As an executor as well as the innovator behind the technical solution, you will bring excellent problem solving, communication and teamwork skills, along with agile ways of working, strong business insight, an inclusive leadership attitude and a continuous learning focus to all that you do.


  • Drive the Group Insurance Product Development technology vision, ensuring the design of the overall technological architecture of the various systems required to develop and introduce Group Insurance products into the marketplace are  comprehensive and sustainable across systems

  • Responsible for technical design and infrastructure / environments strategy, including deployments, ensuring that these are kept in-line with a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) mentality of ‘emerging architecture’

  • Collaborate with product owners in designing the roadmap accounting for strengths and opportunities within the technical stack, bringing forward business insight and knowledge to influence decisions

  • Partner closely with solution architect engineers and other tech leads to elaborate the solution, validate technology assumptions, evaluate implementation alternatives, and converge and deliver the final solution supporting current and future needs

  • Guide Agile teams on technology strategy related to coding practices, continuous integration, and automated deployment, as a leader and doer working across the broader organization to build strong partnerships and increase adoption

  • Lead, mentor and coach the technical team on results, timelines as well as career development, bringing an expert understanding of relevant and emerging technologies and role-modeling our continuous learning culture by embedding learning and innovation in the day-to-day  

  • Identify and remove technical impediments that may arise within the team as well as removing non-technical impediments such as organizational or business issues

  • Provide the team a roadmap for implementing platform engineering practices for higher code quality, looking for opportunities to introduce the broader organization to platform engineering practices for higher code quality output

The Skills & Expertise You Bring


  • Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or experience in related fields

  • Lead and effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts and perspectives to the benefit of the organization  

  • Experience with agile development methodologies and Test-Driven Development (TDD)

  • Knowledge of business concepts tools and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business

  • Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an on-going basis through self-initiative and tackling challenges

  • Excellent executive presence with an ability to translate and communicate sophisticated technical solutions in understandable terms to a broad range of audiences

  • Excellent problem solving and collaboration skills

  • Significant experience and/or deep expertise with the following:


  • Group Insurance products, e.g., Life, Disability, Absence, Medical Stop Loss

  • Group Insurance business processes, e.g., onboarding, underwriting, pricing, enrollment, contracting, billing, administration, and claims

  • Group Insurance supporting core technologies and platforms, e.g., Vitech, Compass

  • Preferred qualifications:

    • Familiarity with InsureTech and/ or BenTech marketplace, providers, and solutions

    • Salesforce

    • Data Exchange capabilities and solutions

    • API development practices

    • Data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning understanding

    • LDEX standards

The salary range for this role is from $195,100.00 to $263,900.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
