GENERAL SUMMARY

The Director of Maintenance Engineering is responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of airport infrastructure at RDU, including planning activities to ensure staff and vendor compliance with work processes and key performance metrics. The Director of Maintenance Engineering will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Program that establishes safe minimum levels of maintenance for equipment types considering cost, equipment uptime, and level of risk.   Responsibilities also include cataloging new and existing equipment, developing appropriate Preventative Maintenance (PM) tasks and schedules, maximizing the utilization of RDU’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Infor EAM (Hexagon), and providing analysis and reporting of completed PMs, work orders, and equipment reliability. The individual will work closely with facilities, fields, fuel and fleet maintenance, planners, and capital project support staff to ensure the development efficient, timely, and effective asset management program. The Director of Maintenance Engineering will also serve as the lead the Authority’s comprehensive inspection program of RDU and tenant-controlled spaces.  The Director of Maintenance Engineering will supervise the Manager of Fuel Systems, Fleet Manager, CMMS Administrator, Material Control Supervisors.  The Director of Maintenance Engineering will report to the VP of OAM and will assist with various other administrative functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.


  • Leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Program at RDU

    • Lead efforts to document equipment criticality, develop preventive maintenance task plans, schedules, and associated documents and to implement these for shop execution using Infor EAM (Hexagon).

    • Research and review recommended maintenance practices for new and existing equipment using OEM equipment manuals, industry guidance, or shop subject matter experts. Develop maintenance plans that provide necessary equipment reliability while minimizing costs and building occupant interruptions.

    • Performs PM inspections and provides technical support beyond normal day to day operational concerns.

    • Define and document standard workflow processes for creating and maintaining asset information, setting up and modifying PM schedules, tasks, routes, and oversee implementation of these processes by providing user training and periodic system review.

    • Lead efforts to maintain thorough, accurate, and timely information of equipment under management. This includes working with project managers, contractors, and shops or reviewing construction drawings to catalogue changes due to construction, renovations, and maintenance. Will also manage small renewal projects.

    • Participate in establishing and maintaining reports, and KPIs. Assist in developing and presenting an EAM training program utilizing a combination of classroom, online, and print for new employees and skill refresher training for mechanics, customers, supervisors, etc.

    • Provide analysis of work orders, cost, and shop labor information to evaluate equipment reliability and maintenance costs, recurring maintenance issues to inform decision making on renewal funding or potential maintenance strategy changes.

    • Identify opportunities, build consensus, and implement continuous process improvements to increase quality, efficiency, or timeliness of work performed by the various departments Operational Asset Management.



  • Work with RDU IS and the CMMS administrator to help plan and test upgrades or modifications to Infor EAM prior to implementation. Develop test protocols and manage testing process to help organization meet upgrade timelines.

  • Lead the Authority’s comprehensive inspection program of RDU and tenant-controlled spaces.

  • Supervise the Manager of Fuel Systems, Fleet Manager, CMMS Administrator, Material Control Supervisors.

  • Provide support for planned, unplanned and emergency operations at the airport to include special events, inclement weather (hurricanes, snow/ice, tornadoes), aircraft accidents, and other events that may interfere with normal day-to-day operations.

  • Performs additional related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, industrial engineering or another related field 

Experience:

Required:


  • 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance and implementation of preventive maintenance and reliability programs required.

  • 2 years of experience of supervision staff.

Preferred:


  • 10 years of experience in industrial maintenance and implementation of preventive maintenance and reliability programs.

  • Commercial airport experience 

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Lead improvement activities such as the development/optimization of maintenance plans, equipment criticality analysis, implementation of management processes, problem solving, definition of roles and responsibilities, etc.

  • Perform Maintenance and Reliability best practice audits to monitor the progress to identify opportunities for improvement to propose work plans to fill the gaps.

  • Provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
