The Role

The College is a leader in financial planning education and the successful incumbent should have a strong interest in maintaining the quality and relevance of our remotely delivered educational programs. The Assistant Professor position will entail academic and financial planning practitioner experiences in developing online content related to sophisticated planning techniques. The Assistant Professor will represent The College to the industry, the public, and accreditation agency representatives.

The position requires a general mastery of CFP® Board curriculum as well as of specific programs’ curriculum at The College. Additionally, the Assistant Professor serves as the primary academic expert on programmatic content and will maintain their network of programmatic connections through personal networking, professional associations, research, thought leadership, public speaking, and board service. This position may typically be performed from remote locations.

Assistant Professors are responsible for teaching courses, developing industry-relevant course content, and maintaining multiple designations at The College as relevant. The position is also responsible for updating course content as needed and developing thought leadership and research in the relevant areas of expertise. The position requires continuing development and delivery of high-quality professional and advanced education programs and services to The College’s students.

The Assistant Professor shall serve as the Subject Matter Expert and partner with the EDUCATE/Instructional Designers in developing and keeping current the delivery of online course content.

This position will require some travel to industry and College events, in-person instruction/residencies, and live on-line course instruction. Faculty at The College are encouraged to engage with the profession through applied research and presentations that support the educational mission of the institution. Program enrollments at The College depend on course quality, referrals, word of mouth, and visibility of the courses created by the professional in this position. Faculty members will be evaluated on the quality of their instruction, content development, student experience, program enrollments, services to The College, and research publications.


  • Ph.D. in Financial Planning or equivalent professional degree or on the path to obtaining Ph.D. within one year from the hiring date.

  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time practitioner experience.

  • Have achieved and able to keep current program-specific designations including but not limited to:

    • Required Industry Designation: CFP®

    • Preferred Industry Designations: AFC®, CFA®, CPA®, EA®.

    • Preferred The College Designations: ChFC®, CAP®, CLU®, RICP®, WMCP®, CLF®

  • Have a minimum of eight years of practitioner experience in the advanced financial planning of:

    • Advanced retirement income planning & issues

    • Aging & gerontology planning considerations

    • Retirement financial products integration in retirement income planning

  • In-depth knowledge of the professional and adult education fields including a) distance learner and adult education industry; b) the needs and interests of all students served by The College; and c) continuing education for designations and certifications

  • Advanced analytical, planning, and organizational skills

  • Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with peers, corporate clients, students, and prospective students

  • Ability to think critically; address complex problems; and use modern technologies and information resources so that students are prepared to become leading citizens of an increasingly globalized field and society

  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of The College’s faculty team, and to represent The College to the industry, the public, and accreditation agency representatives

  • Ability to maintain and grow networks of professionals and utilize those networks to enhance programmatic offerings and content

Salary Grade Minimum: $100,00.00
The starting base salary is determined based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, internal equity, departmental budgets, qualifications, licenses, specialty, and training.
