Summary:

Maintains responsibility for handling all aspects of claims for comprehensive auto incidents and supports the Claims Team with handling of collision auto incidents for Employee Vehicle Lease Program (EVLP), Test Fleet, and Promotional vehicles. Prepares underwriting materials for various insurance renewals and partners with Payroll for completion of Worker's Compensation renewal data. Responsible for reviewing and authorizing approval of driving privileges for eligible drivers of SOA fleet vehicles, including EVLP, Test Fleet, and Promotional vehicles. Maintains the accuracy of all information in Subaru's Vehicle and Driver Database (CVA STARS) with Corporate Vehicles.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Handles comprehensive (non-collision such as hail, flood, vandalism, deer, and falling objects) claims including researching and reviewing all aspects of the claim to make a determination for action. Approves body shop repair orders and supports the Claims Team's handling of collision auto accidents including deductible payment collections and tracking, reviewing incidents to determine if the incidents should be converted to claims, sending files that have potential for recovery to consultant for handling, and working with consultant for information gathering. Coordinates with Corporate Vehicle Administration (CVA) and Risk Management Claims Team to enter all vehicle information into STARS, Fleetio, and Origami including damage, repair orders, location of vehicle, and destruction of vehicle. (20%)
  • Ensures the integrity of the Vehicle and Driver Database (CVA STARS) by reviewing and analyzing required information from all employees, their family members, Subaru Research & Development (SRD), North American Subaru, Inc. (NASI), and Retirees and approving their driving eligibility and/or lease applications annually or when changes are requested. Required documents that need to be analyzed include insurance and claims history, driving forms, motor vehicle records, defensive driving certificates, behind-the-wheel certificates, and marriage/birth certificates. This requires research and understanding of various state motor vehicle violations and accident claims data from insurance companies and translating such data to SOA's Driving Criteria. Audits data through the design and review of reports on a regular basis to confirm that database is current. Recommends changes to processes and policies based on analysis of cases and trends. (25%)
  • Constructs and evaluates underwriting data for annual insurance renewals and underwriter presentations to support the Corporate Risk Manager, Enterprise Risk Manager, Insurance Manager, and Sr. Risk Analyst. Underwriting data includes vehicle data, financial statements, sales projections, inventory shipped, payrolls, facility information, and loss control programs. Understands where to best locate underwriting data, extrapolate relevant information from this data, and how to best construct, organize and present it for underwriting purposes. Analyzes data for accuracy and relevancy. Adjusts data analysis based on SOA business needs and performance, underwriter request, and/or market trends. (10%)
  • Oversees Samba, Subaru of America's (SOA's) third-party driver monitoring service, to evaluate authorized drivers' motor vehicle records. Collaborates with Claims team to maintain and recommend improvements to standards, policies, and procedures for driver records and authorized driver criteria. Reviews monthly report from Samba for new motor vehicle violations and calculates applicable points and surcharges. This requires comparing the states' different motor vehicle violations and determining where they fall within SOA's driving criteria. Any new violations must be evaluated to determine how many points an employee must be charged. (15%)
  • Reviews for accuracy all insurance binders, insurance policies, endorsements, premium invoices, limits, and deductibles and maintains such documents in the RMIS insurance policy database. Utilizes knowledge of RMIS and particulars of insurance policy documentation to properly organize relevant information (10%)
  • Analyzes salary data prepared by Payroll to determine if correct risk codes and limitations are used and prepares Worker's Compensation (WC) insurance submission to the insurance company and the WC monopolistic states (Ohio, Washington, North Dakota, and Wyoming) for WC insurance renewal and audits. Review periodically any new job titles and responsibilities to determine the correct risk code using knowledge and judgment to do so. (10%)

Coordinates annual Casualty Renewal Insurance Card disbursement and communication for all SOA, SRDI, and NASI employees, their Authorized Drivers, and various departments and their pool vehicles. (10%)

Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required; concentration in Risk Management, Finance, or Accounting preferred.
  • Understanding of insurance policy coverages, claims handling, and motor vehicle violations.
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Associate in Claims (AIC) designation, or equivalent insurance designation (or willingness to obtain within two years of hire).
  • Competent experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with Origami RMIS, or similar system, preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, as well as process-oriented with strong attention to detail and deadlines and ability to work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong customer service skills, including active listening to employees' specific driver requests.
  • Ability to adapt to fresh ideas and change.
  • Ability to be budget conscience utilizing cost-effective and "greener" ways.

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Assists Corporate Risk Manager and Claims team with special projects such as Claims Analysis, Insurance Premium Analysis, and Driver Safety Training and Announcements.
  • Assists Risk Management Vehicle Administrator with the management of Risk Management loaner and rental fleet.
  • Prepares agenda, actively participates, and documents meeting notes for monthly department staff and semi-monthly claims meetings.
  • Ensures that cash transactions for payments and investments are received/made and reported properly for Subaru's insurance related subsidiaries.

Education Requirements:

4-year Degree

Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Associate in Claims (AIC) designation or equivalent insurance designation (or willingness to obtain within two years).

Work Environment:

Hybrid Role - Remote work 2 days per week (After 90 Day Onboarding)

Salary Range:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $54200 - $77300 / year. Individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. (Internal Pay Grade: P1)
