Position Title: Sr. Principal R&D Controls Engineer

The Sr. Principal R&D Controls Engineer, operating in R&D, will be accountable for system and sub-system design and integration between hardware (electrical, electronics, sensors and mechanical) and software (firmware, embedded and operating applications) and will closely collaborate with all the design, quality and OPS functions inside the organization to ultimately create highly functional complex medical devices.  This individual independently drives, evaluates, selects and applies modern engineering techniques, procedures and tools to design, test and deliver device operating requirements.



A Day in the Life

 


  • Provide effective technical leadership to multi-disciplinary product development efforts

  • Evaluation and definition of the interfaces between components and media

  • Creation of requirements specification for the entire device control loop: HW components & Interfaces, Software, and Mechanical Interfaces

  • Development of algorithms for control systems used in complex dialysis machines

  • Control Functions improvement (or new development) based on any research project (model Base Design, C Code, Rapid prototyping, …)

  • Fluent in using simulations as a tool when needed

  • Accountable for performing and reviewing root cause and failure analysis activities and presenting it to involved disciplines to negotiate remediation strategies

  • Consider and consolidate internal functional and safety requirements

  • Ensure the implementation, verification, and validation of all functional requirements in the project

  • As needed, plan and execute function and application testing on HIL (hardware in the loop)

  • Support for the handling of test equipment and maintenance and needed test tools

  • Works collaboratively with other departments in resolution of development issues from above (System, HW, SW, Architecture etc.)

  • Interface to customer (OEM) for all function related issues

  • Ideate, evaluate and directs cross-discipline team towards preferred design options to meet product/performance requirements. Collaborates with IP Counsel as needed

  • Manages internal and external design partners, suppliers and manufacturers as needed

  • Provides regular updates to engineering and product leadership on status and advancements

 

Must Have

 


  • Master’s degree in Engineering required

  • At least 5 years of working experience in model based designed or HW\SW in the loop testing

  • At least 10 years of relevant medical device engineering experience

 

Nice to Have:

 


  • Experience in Software Testing using Hardware-In-the-loop and (HIL)/or software-in-the-loop (SIL) Environment

  • Development of control algorithms

  • Experience in Analyzing test results and identifying actionable intelligence out of the data

  • Working knowledge of, and experience in applying, FDA Design Controls and international standards (e.g., Design Controls, 820-CFR, ISO14971, ISO13485, IEC60601, etc.)

  • Experience in SW debugging and usage of emulators and debuggers

  • Knowledge in C/C++ Programming

  • Experience in Testing tools (CANalyzer)

  • Knowledge in test automation using Python / Perl / Java / CAPL Scripting in advantage

  • PhD in Engineering or Physical Science

  • Plan and execute function and application testing on system and HIL/SIL

  • Knowledge in configuration management tools/ Git, Clear case

  • Extensive Medical Device background

  • Speed Goat

  • Knowledge of different processor families and their operating environments

  • Understanding on Software process methodologies
