Heluna Health invites applications for the position of Outreach and Engagement Specialist (OES).  Under general supervision of the Executive Director/ Director of Operations, the OES performs a variety of individual and family support duties, outreach, information dissemination and training activities relating to the implementation of the programs of the Eastern Los Angeles Family Resource Center. 

 

This is a part-time, non-benefitted position (20 hours per week).

This position is supported by special funding.  Continuance is dependent upon available funding.

 Employment is provided by Heluna Health.

The pay range for this position is $25-$28 per hour

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Provide emotional and technical support (Information, Resource & Referrals) to families of children with special needs over the telephone, other online communication platforms, email or in person.

  • Mentor families by sharing lived experiences as a means to build resilience and strength.

  • Assist and provide support for families in preparation for their IFSP (Individualized Family Service Plan), Early Start transition IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) and Part B IEP meetings.

  • Coordinate workshop/training activities at the center or in collaboration with community partners for parents and professionals.

  • Conduct workshops for families and professionals, as directed.

  • Facilitate parent support groups.

  • Represent the Family Resource Center at community fairs, conferences, and other events.

  • Responsible for the direct support of families receiving Early Start, Lanterman and Educational (Part B) services.

  • Establish partnerships with organizations and county offices for outreach to families who have children at risk or with disabilities.

  • Conduct outreach activities to parks, physician offices, schools, ECE sites, hospitals, and other sites where parents of children with or at risk of disabilities may be found.

  • Conduct screenings of children to assist with child find, as directed.

  • Create and coordinate the distribution of quarterly center electronic newsletter.

  • Coordinate content and maintain center website and social media sites as directed.

  • Ability to travel for training/conferences within the United States or Canada.

  • Gather data related to outreach and training events, as directed. 

 

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Other duties to support staff as directed by Executive Director and Programs Manager.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS


  • Minimum of two years' experience working with or accessing services from the following organizations: Early Start Program, Regional Center System, Social Services, Health Services, and Special Education Services.

  • One year's experience in providing support to families of children with developmental disabilities.

  • College Degree, desired; High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

  • Background check clearance.

  • A valid California driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation or the ability to secure timely transportation to perform the essential functions of the job.


  •  Experience with Microsoft Office 365, including PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Knowledge of desktop publishing programs. (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Canva and/or Venngage)

  • Proficiency with design techniques, tools, and technologies necessary for outstanding design work.

  • Must have strong planning and organizational skills.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with families and professionals.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Early Start Program, Regional Center System, Social Services, Health Services and Special Education Services. 

  • Will be required to travel and work in the Whittier, East Los Angeles, and surrounding Communities but will be based at the central office in Alhambra. 

  • Work flexible hours as needed, including some evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to travel to conferences, meetings etc. as needed. (Including overnight travel)

General Office Setting, Indoors Temperature Controlled. Will be required to travel and work in the Whittier and/or East Los Angeles Community. May need to travel by car and/or air to attend meetings throughout the United States and Canada.
