Serve as overall marketing and communications director for firm-wide ESG messaging, marketing activation and business unit coordination to create a high-impact go -to-market enterprise ESG campaign. Work with State Street's ESG corporate, ESG Investment Services and Global Advisors ESG team to ensure the firm is speaking with one voice through consistent messaging and coordinated marketing activation. Work with internal clients to translate their business needs into integrated internal and external marketing communications results. Creating and maintaining strong client and colleague relationships, developing a real sense of partnership:

Additionally, work across marketing channels to integrate all marketing and communications aspects (e.g. internal, external, PR, thought leadership, social, web, design, events, etc). Manage the marketing and communications strategy, planning process to design, coordinate and deliver results-based marketing communications campaigns.

This role can be performed in a hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements Prefer 2-3 days in Boston or Stamford CT or NY.

What you will be responsible for

As ESG Marketing and Communications Director you will:


  • Develop and execute an enterprise ESG marketing and communications strategy that encompasses the "One State Street" view and differentiates our position in the marketplace

  • Develop business-unit appropriate ESG value propositions, messaging, and positioning, and creative to align with client needs and business objectives. Work cross-functionally to ensure positioning and messaging is consistent across all client touchpoints. Serve as internal expert to strengthen and elevate ESG positioning competency within the broader marketing team.

  • Create and ensure consistency in company-wide ESG communications narrative

  • Work with ESG team to oversee and deliver the ESG annual report and identify additional marketing and promotional channels to amplify the key findings from the report

  • Collaboratively work with internal marketing channels and external agency partners (public relations, social media, thought leadership, content strategy team, etc).

  • Manage budget and report on ROI of launches and wider campaigns, including awareness, engagement, and conversion metrics to demonstrate the commercial impact of the ESG marketing work

  • The position's scope of work includes but is not limited to:

  • Provide strategic thinking for ESG messaging and activation, resulting in the identification and proposal of opportunities leading to increased client ROI and measurable results

  • Developing an overall campaign orchestration and delivery of concepts, documents, analysis and reviews, event marketing, external activation campaigns (e.g. social media, web)

  • Develop strong working knowledge of the State Street's ESG corporate position, products, competition, industry and market environment and use that knowledge to recommend effective strategies/tactics to meet firm's reputational and revenue objectives

  • Maintain detailed project specification and scope documentation for assigned projects

  • Work collaboratively across a matrixed organization ensuring that State Street is positioned in the market as a leader on ESG issues and a trusted partner to our clients

  • Establish measurement framework to assess the impact of ESG marketing impact and adjust plan based on most effective channels and messages


Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 10+ years' experience in marketing communications and marketing campaign management.

  • At least have Bachelor's degree - advanced degree in communications or related field is beneficial.

  • A high standard of written and spoken English is essential.

  • Background in, and familiarity with financial services and ESG issues

  • Must have ability and desire to work collaboratively across all marketing and business unit channels

  • Ability to troubleshoot / problem solve with creative solutions and positioning

  • Must be willing and able to accept full accountability and for assigned duties and work

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, refine and communicate the various voices and messages of the company to key stakeholders; as well as strong project management skills to coordinate and influence the different teams globally

  • Global awareness and sensitivity in working across time zones and cultures

Salary Range:
$170,000 - $267,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
