Role description:

Arcadis seeks a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our growing transportation team in Jackson, MS.
The Arcadis Jackson team is expanding and involved in providing solutions to some of the most complex and exciting traffic design challenges for various DOTs and municipalities across the southeast. We are looking for a candidate with the skills to address these challenges and the desire to develop junior staff.

Role accountabilities:


  • Serving as a professional engineer for traffic engineering assignments, including traffic and safety analyses and studies, signal designs, signal timing and implementation, pavement marking, signing, and traffic control design on projects of varying size and scope.
  • Providing support and guidance to junior engineering and technical staff including interpretation of project plans and schedules, evaluating, and developing technical special provisions, and providing QAQC.
  • Planning, developing, implementing, fine tuning and evaluating traffic signal timing.
  • Responsibilities also include analysis of traffic signal operation on arterials and networks, development of new signal timing parameters based on detailed analysis, inputting traffic signal plans via central control systems and/or directly into local controllers, and evaluation of signal timing effectiveness.
  • Additional responsibilities include business development, proposal preparation, project management and budget control.
  • Developing documents including project scopes, specifications, schedules, standard operating procedures, and cost estimates to support project work.
  • Routinely communicating effectively with client on increasingly complex and technical issues.
  • Displaying flexibility and changes approach or methods to fit the situation.
  • Experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems is an advantage.
  • Experience in report writing and making public presentations is an advantage.
Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications


  • 10+ Years of relevant engineering experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Mississippi Professional Engineering (PE) required, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
Key Attributes

  • Experience is required in SYNCHRO and experience with one or more simulation models, such as VISSIM and CORSIM is an advantage
  • Must have strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills and be a self-motivated, team-oriented and flexible individual.
  • Excellent, clear, and concise, oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to assist with meeting coordination and preparing written reports.
Preferred Qualifications

  • PTOE desired.
  • IMSA desired.
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional societies
  • Proficiency in MDOT design standards and policies
Arcadis offers benefits for full time positions. We offer seven paid holidays and potentially up to two floating holidays per calendar year depending on start, and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $88000 - $136000 / year.
