Reporting to the Head of the GU Bladder/Renal Cancer team, as the Global Medical Affairs Leader (GMAL) you will play a key role in the development of medical strategy and execution of key deliverables to support the launch and lifecycle management globally for various assets within the GU program.


As the GMAL, you will have specific ownership of key strategic elements of the medical plans, ultimately delivering impactful solutions in preparation for upcoming medical launches.


Key interactions and collaboration with global external experts and internal partners across the R&D and Commercial functions will form part of your accountability and responsibilities and building relationships across the OBU Medical organisation.


Span of Control


  • Provides medical insights and influences broadly across AZ matrix organization (global medical, marketing, R&D and local MCs)


  • Manages elements of the brand budget


  • Manages multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, and works autonomously




GMT & MC Engagement


  • Engages across functions and markets at a peer level viewed as enablers for key senior stakeholders




Medical Plans


  • Responsible for development and delivery of key elements of the global medical tactical plan in collaboration with Sr GMAL, cross medical and cross functional partners and Global Medical Team (GMT)




Evidence Generation


  • Works with Sr GMALs to deliver evidence strategy including proposing an ESR strategy and reviewing the ESR and RWE protocols against agreed priorities, assuming the role of decision maker where applicable


  • May be responsible for RWE planning and execution, review of protocols for GMA studies, informing study delivery demands.




Early Access Program Strategy & Delivery


  • Partners with Sr GMAL to operationalize Early Access Program (EAP) strategy, if applicable




Insights & Key External Experts (KEE) Engagement


  • Engages cross functionally to gain insight needs, understand the patient journey, and develop a multifaceted tactical plan to deliver, including Advisory boards, KEE 1;1 etc.


  • Responsible for KEE mapping activities and development of engagement plans with key internal stakeholders


  • Initiates plans to collect insights from multiple sources, identifies the implications for the organization, and makes recommendations to address to the cross functional teams and markets


  • Works with MSL excellence director on key insight themes and questions




Ad Boards


  • Serve as Strategic Lead for Advisory boards including developing a strategic plan for ad boards, shaping the agendas, and working collaboratively to ensure the right partners are included in discussions


  • May chair/co-chair the ad board




Competitive Intelligence


  • Ensures brand team awareness of key external developments (e.g. competitors, data releases, congresses, social media) and articulates the implications to the brand




Medical Materials


  • Ensures a robust medical narrative is in place


  • Leads proactive and reactive content strategy across medical functions and owns asset development working in collaboration with internal partners and agencies




Training


  • Serve as internal expert on asset data


  • In conjunction with Oncology Medical Team, co-develop the internal asset training plan and co-deliver key training materials and events




External Education


  • Develop an external education plan including delivery of AstraZeneca-led Symposia and other scientific exchange meetings


  • Serve as decision maker for identified Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs




Publications


  • Serve as GMA point person for defined publications


  • Responsible for the review of publications and input into publication strategy




Project Management


  • Will lead and/or contribute to Global Medical Projects


  • Source external vendors and budget management for delivery of plan / tactics




Compliance


  • Ensures that all Medical and business activities are carried out in compliance with AZ standards, standard operating procedures and external regulations




Essential Requirements


  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in pharma/life sciences and/or medical experience (e.g. significant clinical/academic/medical affairs agency roles/organisations)


  • Scientific degree preferred or equivalent medical/scientific qualifications and/or significant industry and/or therapeutic experience


  • Good communication and presentation skills in English


  • Experience of multistakeholder management


  • Experience of leading on medical plans and strategic medical initiatives


  • Ability to influence others without authority


  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams


  • Good understanding of drug development and commercialization processes including understanding of outcomes research /payer access issues


  • Proven ability to generate, analyze and interpret clinical trial and published data




Desirable requirements


  • Advanced degree preferred (PhD, PharmD, MD)


  • 3+ years in a Headquarters Medical Affairs role or Global Clinical R&D


  • Oncology experience


  • Country or global medical launch experience


  • Documented track record of successfully developing and implementing Medical Plans both in terms of evidence generation, scientific communications, and external expert engagements
