The Associate Director, Publication Operations will provide strategic direction for and lead a team that plans and manages publication projects including budgets, resources, vendors, publication management databases and project tracking systems, training, and publications reporting. This will be done in compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as external guidelines. The role will provide advice for the development, implementation, and support of publications information management processes and systems and will ensure that AstraZeneca business critical information and data are effectively protected and leveraged for decision-making.


  • Ensures publication excellence across the AstraZeneca Oncology Business Unit by adhering to AstraZeneca's Global Publication Policy & Standards

  • Collaborates with the Sr. Director, and Tumor Directors to develop and roll out publication operations strategy and goals

  • Responsible for line management and development of a team of Publication Coordinators (Poland) and/or agency personnel to ensure operational excellence and high level of customer service across the AstraZeneca Oncology Business Unit

  • Generates publication metrics and reports from the publications management database for various functions across the business; ensures maintenance of accurate and consistent publication records in DataVision with the help of Publication Coordinators and Publication Leads

  • Accountable for routine monitoring and annual audits

  • Conduct regular assessment of systems (e.g. DataVision, Clear) & provide solutions to enhance productivity, efficiency, compliance, simplicity & quality

  • Assist Sr Director with department budget and AstraZeneca financial processes


What you'll need:



  • Demonstrated experience (several years preferred) in medical publications or communications gained through working in the pharmaceutical industry or a medical communications agency

  • Experienced in working globally, cross-culturally and cross-functionally and managing on-shore and off-shore alliances and collaborations

  • Demonstrated project management experience

  • Experienced in managing a team

  • Demonstrated experience (several years preferred) working with publication management systems and databases (ie, DataVision, PubSTRAT, PubsHub)

  • Undergraduate degree in science, communications or business operations or equivalent

  • Strategic agility, approachable, and solutions oriented

  • Collaborative and consultative demeanor

  • Clear and effective communication skills

  • Capable of providing and accepting feedback from senior leadership

  • Excellent project management skills to deliver in a complex internal and external environment




Desired Qualifications



  • Undergraduate degree in science, communications or business operations or equivalent

  • Experience in oncology preferred
