The Opportunity:

The Infectious Disease Specialist works with GenMark’s sales organization to increase the adoption rate of the company’s products in community hospitals and academic medical centers. With a strong understanding of clinical microbiology, infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship, the Infectious Disease Specialist will collaborate to deliver presentations to different customer audiences, including; physicians, microbiologists, infection control, pharmacy personnel, clinical nursing and other healthcare professionals. The role also entails helping to educate and train GenMark’s sales organization to better understand customer requirements, priorities, and strategies that help to maximize the potential of the company’s products.

This is a field based role - the territory includes Charlotte, Philadelphia, Boston, New York and Pittsburgh. The ideal candidate will be located in this area with access to a major airport.

Job Facts:


  • Regular travel with the company’s sales organization to help identify, qualify and capture new business and achieve sales goals.

  • Develop a deep understanding of company products and present technical information to different audiences that have various degrees of scientific and clinical experience.

  • Build strong relationships with customers and thought leaders, ensuring regular interactions.

  • Work with internal teams to transfer different types of information and content to help create and update training materials.

  • Assist with the training and education of the company’s sales organization.

  • Stay current on trends within the industry.

  • Develop strong internal relationships with Marketing and provide consistent customer feedback/VOC to help drive new product development and improvements.

  • Attend and participate in required sales and industry meetings.

  • Complete training and administrative responsibilities in a timely manner.

Who you are:


  • PharmD is required.

  • Familiarity with infectious disease diagnosis, treatment and/or microbiology/virology methods is desirable.

  • Knowledge of GenMark’s Infectious Disease diagnostic products is a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization.

  • Must be able to give customer facing presentations.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Outlook required. SFDC knowledge a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks is required.

  • Customer service focus and a professional attitude.

  • Ability to travel up to 75%.

  • A valid driver's license.

For New York-based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is ($123,000 - $157,000).  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  This position is eligible to earn incentive compensation that is calculated and paid in accordance with the applicable Incentive Compensation Plan for the role. This position also qualifies for the benefits listed below.
