The primary responsibility of the Director, RD&E Technology - Home Cleaning is to provide a multi-year technology vision and strategy for the Home Cleaning RD&E division. This includes sourcing new technology and leveraging external partnerships to bring new technology to SCJ.
The Director RD&E - Technology is expected to lead & maintain a highly capable, curious and engaged technical team of 1-3 Principals.
Strong collaboration and ability to influence leaders from Category RD&E, Commercial Marketing, Global Supply Chain and Finance is key
The role requires using the latest science and technology knowledge and ensuring the team is applying standards and knowledge with urgency and robustness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create a technology roadmap and execute proof of principle/proof of concept on new technologies.
Ensure scientific rigor and thought leadership in product test methodologies to drive competitive advantage and develop product design strategies including use of novel compounds & processes to achieve and maintain superior efficacy.
Ability to understand & integrate technical information into business decisions. Take prompt action to accomplish goals; proactively attempt to influence events rather than passively accept outcomes
Drive science-based technology adaptations and applications to deliver new test methods and robust simulations and models to understand our products at a deep technical level, unlocking superior product performance, enable new superior claims, or substantiate stronger existing claims.
Collaborate with Category business partners to deliver technology needs and achieve growth goals while maintaining product quality and consumer experience.
Leverage strong business, technical, market, and category acumen to optimize business results; deliver commitments with optimized functional budget management
Drive alignment and enrollment to a course of action among key cross-functional peers in RD&E, Commercial Marketing, Global Supply Chain and Finance.
Understand key Category Demand Choice Drivers, Demand Spaces, and White Spaces and apply appropriately to maintain and enhance the product and brand consumer relevance and value. Ensures technology searches and vetting objectives and execution are aligned to those key consumer elements.
Build an engaged team and create an environment of creativity and problem solving. Enable team members to smartly explore technologies, see connections to business problems, and propose technology solutions.
Build and develop strong partnerships internally and externally to deliver a robust technology pipeline.
Demonstrate behaviors that reflect SCJ Success Drivers and establish a "Mindset to Win" Culture in the R&D team
Attract, retain and develop talent while fostering a performance-driven culture. Support the development of those in reporting organization through coaching, training and performance management practices, including conducting annual performance reviews and management succession and development activities.
Lead and coach Intellectual Property efforts - Provide input and guidance to IP strategy across the division. Guide the project technical experts need to understand IP. Oversee contract negotiations and/or agreements to be pursued by the teams. Guide/recommend CDA's, one-way vs two-way, lead strategy and the negotiation for Development Agreements or any other type ( i.e. assure the correct and timely agreement is in place).
Demonstrate strong R&D functional skills, including effective communication, financial acumen, integrated risk management, project management, quality, and robustness, regulation & safety, scientific rigor, and technical curiosity
REQUIRED SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ COMPETENCIES
Bachelor's Degree in Science or Engineering or related degree
10+ of related experience, with demonstrated experience of leading managers and staff to achieve business results
PREFERRED SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ COMPETENCIES
Advanced degree in Science or Engineering, PhD preferred.
Demonstrated track record of business results and significant experience in the execution of product development projects through commercialization.
Proven ability to lead/manage and influence leaders across countries, functions, divisions, and management levels to drive cultural and process changes.
Experience of successfully leading complex and interdependent project teams with global scope.
Proven track record in delivery of commitments with significant impact to key business metrics (growth, share, margin improvement).
Demonstrated leadership skills to lead a diverse R&D team that includes high caliber project managers and scientists, supporting their career growth and ability to deliver results in a fast-paced competitive environment.
Clear & concise communication skills with the ability to orchestrate effective meetings and written materials prompting the appropriate discussions and accountability that will harness technical capability across SCJ.
Experience in leading lean and/or continuous improvement initiatives.
Demonstrated leadership skills in coaching and mentoring teams and individuals.
Able to develop strategic plans for long term value improvement while also possessing ability to Drive for Results in short term.
Experience in applying deep, technical knowledge, business context and competitive set information to drive robust project execution decisions.
