Job Description:

**This is a Hybrid role where you will work 3 days/week out of the office and 2 days/week out of your home office.

Summary:


  • West Coast University, which has been educating healthcare professionals for more than 100 years, is looking for a Social Media Marketing Specialist to help the school – and its sister school, American Career College – to identify and tell their stories in a compelling and engaging way across social media including TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook.

  • Reporting to the Director of Digital Marketing & Communications, this person will have the chance to be involved in every aspect of the team’s work, from creating graphics and videos to writing copy to community managing and reporting.

  • Also, this role requires strong judgment, exceptionally strong attention to detail and a clear understanding and application of all compliance and regulations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


  • Partners with our high-performing team members on all aspects of social media, from planning, production and publishing to community management and reporting, and will be expected to work regularly in our social tool (Sprout Social).

  • Production includes the gathering of content, oftentimes at campus locations and in partnership with faculty and/or students, as well as the editing of videos primarily for TikTok and IG Reels.

  • Community Management includes monitoring, tagging and responding to inquiries on our primary social channels (via Sprout) and extends to include secondary channels (including Yelp, Google My Business and YouTube).

  • Reporting includes reviewing Sprout Social analytics on a monthly basis and providing context – what happened to influence outlier numbers – to help to ensure that the data/charts are actionable/insightful.

  • Must demonstrate an exceptionally strong “news sense” and ability to tell a story: identifying the compelling part(s) of a story that will resonate with a particular audience, and then incorporating it into social content in a way that is authentic and engaging and impactful.

  • May be asked to support paid social campaigns as needed.

  • Works closely with core in-house social team, and marketing peers, to ensure brand look and feel, voice and tone are consistently represented across all digital content.

  • Works closely with the in-house creative and student communications teams to partner on projects (like graduations) that require greater level of resourcing and collaboration, and where assets will be used by multiple partners.

  • Stays up-to-date with digital technology trends and makes recommendations on where the team should be investing, or re-allocating, future resources.

  • Content gathering may require occasional travel to campuses in Southern California, Dallas and Miami.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or college information as required.

  • Adheres to College/University policies and procedures and conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the College/University’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.

  • Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and as required to meet the needs of the College/University and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.

  • Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.

  • Maintains order, cleanliness and safety at work.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, English, Journalism, Marketing or related field, or equivalent experience.

Knowledge/Experience:


  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with and as part of a digital communications/marketing team, preferably at a company/school with similar size and complexity to WCU/ACC.

  • Demonstrated experience producing engaging social content including videos (for Reels/TikTok), preferably at a company/school with similar size and complexity to WCU/ACC.

  • Experience as an effective storyteller, preferably in a Higher Education, Healthcare and/or Journalism space.

Qualifications/Skills:


  • Hands-on experience with social media production, publishing and community management leveraging social software/tools (like Sprout, Sprinklr, Hootsuite, etc.).

  • Ability to design on-brand graphics and produce video content for a variety of digital channels including notably TikTok and IG Reels.

  • Ability to use all MS Office programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook) and to present professionally in all written, verbal and interpersonal interactions.

  • Attention to detail in every aspect of work, whether producing intra-office communications or content intended for external audiences.

  • Knowledge of online marketing and related channels, including notable TikTok and Instagram, and having a pulse on whatever is next in the ever-evolving social media space.

  • Understanding and application of brand identity principles.

  • Support and encourage fellow team members while also being able to work independently.

  • Ability to set and accomplish goals.

  • Ability to pitch new concepts to other team members.

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills with solid attention to detail.

  • Ability to take initiative and work proactively.

  • Ability to work comfortably and efficiently in a collaborative setting.

  • Ability to manage and work effectively in a highly ethnic and culturally diverse student and associate community.

  • Ability to function well under pressure of deadlines and conflicting priorities.

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
