Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Grants Accountant is responsible for the support of the financial integrity of the College, accurate and timely recording of grants and plant fund accounting transactions and management of the automated accounting system and related audit functions in these areas.

DUTIES


  1. Performs accounting and financial reporting for all program grant funds, oversees grant expenditures for accuracy, and update all grants for applicable monthly charges to maintain fiscal integrity of the funds. Prepares various grant financial reports according to grantor requirements, accurately reflecting the financial status of the fund. Determines cash requirements for all federal and state program grants, making appropriate cash requests to meet needs, as directed. Performs account reconciliations and prepares cash drawdowns of financial aid funds with the required reporting. Reviews state and federal program grant regulations to ensure adherence to financial guidelines and procedures. Prepares and assists in the preparation of audit schedules for program and financial aid grants, and other selected funds. Meets with Program Directors to set up grant budgets and reviews expenditures. Coordinates all aspects of accounting for capital projects. Submits all necessary paperwork to the County and State for applicable reimbursements. Provides backup for Accounts Payable. Train fellow employees on duties to ensure the college has proper backup when necessary. Performs other duties, as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years in computerized accounting, bank reconciliations, and/or year-end audits required.

  • Accounting experience in educational setting preferred.

  • Experience with a Higher Education Software (Colleague) preferred.

  • Minimum of one-year Accounts Payable experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, with advanced knowledge of Excel.

  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners in large and small settings.

  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.
