Job Description:

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
The Health Services Director is responsible for managing the overall operation of the Health Services department to ensure quality standards in health and well-being of the residents. These responsibilities include implementing and maintaining clinical systems and programs; hiring, supervising, and training of Health Services staff; and maintaining a physical, social, and psychological environment which will be conducive to the best interests and welfare of the residents. The Health Services Director is also responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, Quality Improvement standards and processes, and managing the department in a manner that is consistent with resident needs, government regulations, and Sunshine Retirement Living Policies and procedures.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Licensed vocational nurse license to practice in the state of employment, preferred. When required by state regulations, a valid state Practical Nurse license or Registered Nurse license, is required. License must be in good standingBachelors degree in related field, preferredMinimum 2+ years experience with senior care or assisted living and has knowledge of seniors with Alzheimers disease or other related dementiaPrevious supervisory and/or management experience in a related healthcare settingAbility to interact with memory-impaired residents and families living with Alzheimers or related dementiaEfficient in managing the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), using the required modules to manage health service systemsKnowledge of and ability to conform to applicable laws, rules, and regulations and meets state or provincial health related requirements (as applicable for position)Must have exceptional organizational and customer service skills with the ability to re-prioritize dailyDemonstrated ability to work in a team setting and to convey strong public-relations skillsExperience in computer use and relevant software applications are preferredDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively (in English), both verbally and in writing, with residents and staffA valid drivers license and good driving record are required along with proof of auto insurance. May be required to assume the duties and responsibilities of the Community Driver position as neededAble to work flexible hours and be available to respond to the community during off-duty hours regarding clinical concerns and emergenciesMaintain a positive, respectful, and professional approach with coworkers, residents, and staffHave effective organizational and project management skills with attention to detailAbility to work under time constraints and meet department deadlinesMust be at least 18 years of ageSatisfactorily pass Sunshines and state regulated criminal record clearance, health screening and TB clearance (if applicable)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Resident Care:
Exhibit good judgment, problem-solving and critical thinking skillsCoordinate and facilitate family care conferences in conjunction with updates in the assessment and serviceAssist in supporting residents and family during difficult transitional periods throughout the residents stayRespond to emergency situations when available in the Community to administer first aid when appropriateNotify management, appropriate resident family member/contact, and primary physician after accidents/emergencies involving the resident, within the required timeframeCollaborate with all departments to coordinate resident care and ensure communication of resident and staff needs. Lead the Health Services team in an inter-departmental collaborative approach to resident care for seamless person-centered careEnsure all recording of monthly weights and vital signs and weight changes are acted upon per protocolEnsure dietary orders and weight gain/loss are communicated to staff and other departmentsReport weight gain/loss to Dietician for the quarterly consultationEnsure care staff is providing and documenting services consistent with resident's plan of care in accordance to state regulatory requirementsEnsure nursing acts as the liaison for ancillary health services to include obtaining orders for services; resident visits occur as scheduled and prompt communications between third party providers and team membersEnsure required shift communications and team reporting and documentation occurs

Health Services Systems:
Ensure resident assessments and service plans are completed per protocol in accordance to state regulatory requirements and in a timely fashionPartner with the Executive Director on changes in care, that result in increased cost for the familyReview medication orders and ensure orders are correctly entered in EMR and delivered to the residentsMonitor the EMR reports ensuring assessments, medications, incident reports, nursing and care staff documentation are appropriately entered into the systemMonitor and oversee the Medication Program and pharmacy performance, including training medication assistants and ensuring they follow State RegulationsEnsure the staff is providing and documenting services consistent with the resident care planReport resident incidents and any change of condition per company incident reporting protocol to Executive Director and Home OfficeEnsure the medical records are kept in a manner compliant with relevant policies and procedures and State Regulations, including updating Emergency Face Sheet informationConduct routine review of the medication program to ensure medications are being stored, delivered and maintained per protocolsEnsure Pharmacy quarterly reviews are conducted, and action plans developed and implemented, as indicatedEnsure residents who have an unusual occurrence are assessed, have the appropriate follow up, required notifications are made, incident reports are completed and entered in EMREnsure community remains compliant with State Regulations when accepting and retaining residentsMaintain infection control practices within the community and consults with the National Director for suspected outbreaks that may require mandatory reportingMonitor EMR reports ensuring assessments, medications, incident reports, nursing and care staff documentation are appropriately entered into the system
Staffing and Leadership
Hire, supervise and coach Health Services staff, including Wellness Nurses, Certified Medication Aides/Techs, Caregivers, and any other Health Services staffComplete required staff performance reviews in a timely fashionDemonstrate effective verbal communications both in one-on-one situations and in meetingsEnsure staff schedule is completed and posted for staff two weeks before the start of each monthDemonstrate a positive attitude and model effective interpersonal relationshipsAssures proper training and certification of all Health Services Team members as required by Sunshine Retirement Living, and state and local guidelinesUtilize effective organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detailManage and approve staff time-off request in a fair and consistent mannerTrain and supervise Health Services staff in the correct use of EMR and other company processesOrder and maintain medical supplies, emergency kits and other resident support devices and supplies
Understands and manages within department budget to include labor and expenses and its impact on the bottom lineAble to work flexible hours and be available to respond to the community during off-duty hours regarding clinical concerns and emergenciesActively participate in the programs and support census building initiatives, event hosting, external and internal program presentationsComplete required staff performance reviews, corrective action, and recognition programsModels a safe workplace culture, ensures safety compliance with all staff
