Overview
JOB SUMMARY: The Technical Writer creates documentation to support technical programs. Such documentation may come in the form of project management plans, quality control plans, system release notes, general technical documentation, government compliance documentation, requirements documentation, design documents, user guides, integration guides, installation/configuration instructions, and system operations. The Technical Writer may also be asked to perform general quality assurance tasks for technical projects, which may involve validating documentation by other project teams and performing reoccurring system tasks to validate system readiness
The Technical Writer will consult with project management, architects, engineering, and technical staff to prepare technical and non-technical documentation for cloud applications. The Technical Writer will develop and promote the adoption of documentation templates and will ensure that all documentation is compliant with Client standards, including 508 compliance. To efficiently communicate with a variety of users, the Technical Writer needs to be an expert at writing for both technical and non-technical audiences. The Technical Writer is also responsible for continuously editing and revising content to ensure Clients have the best possible experience. This role will function as a primary writer-responsible for deliverables of substantial scope and complexity and therefore must have strong writing skills, the ability to synthesize technical content from a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and create materials that clearly explain the topic/task to Clients both technical and non-technical. It is expected that this individual will have the capability of understanding Arctic IT's offerings and will access the right internal resources to gather content as well as deliver excellent and accurate products and deliverables.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documents, including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation.
Write, format, edit, review, and proof procedural and technical information for technical and nontechnical users.
Integrate use case and functional data into user documentation and examples.
Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet project schedules and Client deliverables.
Create meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and ongoing status reports.Maintain a library of application documentation, cataloging it for internal and/or external use.
Publish and maintain templates for written documentation produced by others ensuring a consistent "look and feel."
Work with project and product managers, marketing, and technical SMEs to produce and maintain world-class documentation.
Learn complex concepts and communicate the information in a way that is engaging and understood by Clients.
Gather Client feedback on documentation to improve usability.
Act as an editor to ensure consistency in training documentation.
Write for a variety of audiences, from non-technical to senior level technical resources.
Complete peer editing and production review work.
Maintain configuration control of files, planning/control documents, and baseline in accordance with implementation methodology and deliverable standards.
Provide overall quality control, and compliance with contract deliverable compliance.
Provide recommendations for process improvements and implement specific changes.
In times of high demand, assist the Arctic IT Grow team in responding to formal Requests for Information (RFIs)/Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a technical field such as computer science or a focus on English, writing, or communications, or equivalent experience.
5-7 years of experience required in an IT environment.
3+ years of technical writing experience.
Experience with technical platforms and/or languages including, but not limited to, the Microsoft stack of products.
Experience in creating documentation for audiences with different levels of technical skill.
Experience in presenting technical information in a live setting, such as classroom training, presentations, or video conference.
Strong experience owning an end-to-end documentation creation process.
Portfolio of work and/or writing samples.
Expert-level proficiency in document management, archiving and organization within the internal standards.
Experience in version control management, seamlessly incorporating tracked changes from multiple contributors, and cleaning files of personally identifiable information.
Must have valid state driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and auto insurance.
Applicants subject to government security investigations and must meet eligibility requirements related to the clearance process.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work for this role is performed in a home office and interacts with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. Telecommuters are expected to have sufficient home office space that appears neat, organized, and professional when on video meetings. Occasional travel may be required.
