Tetra Tech Inc.'s Disaster Recovery division is currently seeking Site Safety and Security Assessors to travel into the State of Iowa on a weekly basis to support the State's School Safety Assessment Program on a short-term project. The program includes conducting on-site vulnerability assessments for approximately 1500 schools and over 300 school districts throughout the state. Candidates for this position must be available to work in the State of Iowa for up to 18 months. Overnight travel may be required. Pre-approved business-related travel expenses including mileage are eligible for reimbursement following GSA guidelines and per diem rates.

Tetra Tech is looking to hire qualified candidates outside the state of Iowa who can commit to traveling and lodging in and out of the state to complete assessments. All deployment expenses will be covered by Tetra Tech (i.e., flights, lodging, etc.) This position will require travel to Iowa each week until the anticipated project completion date of December 31 st , 2022.

Position Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Participate in training with the Tetra Tech project leader to understand reporting requirements, technology systems, and assessment techniques with the goal to provide consistent and thorough school assessments.
  • Obtain required credentials to conduct site visits while students may be present on campus.
  • Coordinate with Tetra Tech administrative, logistics, and management personnel to schedule site assessments and book any required travel arrangements.
  • Review and analyze a desktop analysis of the school's safety and security program prior to conducting each site assessment.
  • Coordinate with local stakeholders from the school administration, school district, law enforcement, and emergency management to conduct school assessments.
  • Travel, using a personal vehicle, to each school site to conduct the on-site school assessment. Site visits may last up to 6 hours for each site.
  • Capture critical information and documentation for each assessment using a software tool.
  • Review the information and data compiled during the assessment and develop a thorough summary for each site within 1 business day of the site visit.
  • Receive feedback from Tetra Tech Subject Matter Experts to update and revise site assessment summary as needed.
  • Provide options for consideration based on relevant experience and training to address vulnerabilities identified in site assessments.

The Required Qualifications for the Site Safety and Security Assessor position are:


  • Must be available to work in the State of Iowa for up to 3-4 months .
  • Possess own reliable transportation and smartphone, available for all-day use.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Have proof of auto insurance.
  • Have good driving record. To be considered for this position, your driving record must not indicate any of the following during the past 3 years:

    • Punitive suspension, denial, or revocation of driver's license.
    • Conviction for impaired or intoxicated driving (DWAI, DUI, DWI).
    • Conviction of reckless driving, driving with a suspended/denied/revoked license, hit and run or leaving the scene.
    • Conviction of 3 or more moving violations, at-fault accidents, or a combination.
  • Possess the ability to conduct interior and exterior site assessments of large school campuses including multi-structure sites.
  • Possess at least 5 years of relevant experience in law enforcement, homeland security, crime analytics, or another related field.
  • Possess (or obtain within 10 business days of start date) certification in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), Physical Site Professional, or another related site security certification.
  • Possess (or obtain within 10 business days of start date) certification in Incident Command System and National Incident Management System (ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, and IS-800).
  • Possess (or obtain within 10 business days of start date) certification in IS-360 : Preparing for Mass Casualty Incidents: A Guide for Schools, Higher Education, and Houses of Worship.
  • Maintain awareness of current tactical response operations for active threats through professional development and training.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Possess the ability to receive constructive feedback and implement recommendations provided by team leaders.
  • Possess the ability to anticipate issues and make sound decisions to adjust accordingly.
  • Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Environmental Conditions and Requirements

  • Office and field work environments.
  • Travel in a vehicle for up to 4 continuous hours of drive time including driving at night.
  • Outdoor work for up to 4 hours in varying weather conditions.
  • Exterior site assessments on uneven terrain around large facility perimeters.
