Job Description:

Job Summary:

Monitor the Intelex System housing incident investigations for Kirby Marine Transportation. Complete incident investigation reports for internal and external customers. Schedule and monitor customer assurance of Kirby equipment to ensure the equipment will meet reliability, performance, safety standards, and customer requirements.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Daily monitoring and updating records within the Intelex System.

  • Review submitted incident investigation records for system and procedure requirements.

  • Develop formal incident investigation reports for external and internal distribution.

  • Assist the investigator incident investigation process as needed by Operations and Maintenance/Engineering.

  • Assist in developing and identifying trends extrapolated from the Intelex System.

  • Manage the SIRE Inspection Process for Kirby Offshore Marine.

  • Develop and produce Intelex reports for Kirby Management.

  • Maintain customer requests for incident investigation reports.

  • Respond to all formal customer inquiries externally and internally.

  • Track SIRE Inspection deficiencies for trending and analysis.

  • Work with third party charter companies for SIRE inspection completion, and customer inquiries.

 Additional Duties and Responsibilities:


  •  Maintain the list of actively vetted barges and boats, schedule SIRE inspections as needed, and communicate vetting status to internal and external customers. Including Kirby inland and Kirby offshore equipment.

  • Understand customer requirements, and ensure barges and boats meet all requirements.

  • Respond to SIRE Inspection deficiencies, work with Kirby Maintenance & Vessel Operations on completion.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the group.

  • Work within the HELM System for SIRE deficiency tracking and completion.

  • Work within the ABS NS System for Kirby Offshore document retrieval and SIRE observations.

  • Review vessel hull gauge reports from Maintenance for accuracy.

  • Provide administrative assistance with all administrative functions of the department as necessary.

  • Participate in TMSA audits, along with formal customer and operational audits as needed.

  • Any other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications Knowledge & Skill:


  • Prior experience with marine incident investigation.

  • Strong formal and technical report writing skills.

  •  Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both internal as well as external customers.

  • Good organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment.

  • Understand and reference Kirby Procedures

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)

  • Knowledge of Oasis, HELM, ABS NS programs.

  • Ability to navigate third party websites.

Education


  • College degree preferred but not required 

Experience:


  • Must have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the marine industry.

  • Operational experience with inland navigation and barge operations (preferred).

Physical Activities & Requirements: Standard Office Criteria


  • Potential vessel visits in the fleet and other office locations.

 Working Conditions: Standard Office Criteria 


  • Normal office hours (expected start time of 0700 or 0730). Will be expected to work within an existing On Call Duty Schedule.
